Merry Old England ain't so merry no more

So we’ve got Yorkshire pudding and a bunch of swill.
<turns up nez in dégoût>

When You were in Europe, did you have a chance to visit Germany?

See in Germany they call Americans “Amis,”
and guess what they call the English?

I’ve been to Germany but I’m afraid to ask what they call the English…

(And to be fair our visit was basically a thinly disguised German beer bender.)

That will work!

We took a 12 day Uk cruise one time.

Good ship food. :+1:

Yes. According to the judge. Again, you can disagree with the judge, but if the park was built too close to the houses then the parish was at fault.

Germans call them “Roast Beefers”
Something about the fact that nearly every breed of cattle comes from the UK and the english eat a TON of roast beef. (They practically invented it.)

BONUS ROUND:
You like sandwiches, right?
And you probably didn’t see a big sandwhich culture on the continent.

Why do you think that is?

This is what happens when nosy people are too comfortable from lack of getting socked in the mouth.

This is fun…

I was staring at that map wondering why Sandwich (Mass) was so misplaced

I cede the point but it speaks to a broader point: How zoning regulations outlaw common sense and reasonable development.

the english arent too kind to the german people either.

they sing songs at england germany soocer matches

the song “two world wars and one world cup” sung to the tune of camptown races.

and the other favorite is “ten german bombers” sung to the tune of she’ll be coming around the mountain”

really funny stuff (well except if you are german)

Those “two residents” should now move to Dearborn, Michigan and complain about the noise blaring at all times of day that is now the largest Muslim population in the US.

I don’t cede the point.

On this forum, we routinely

  • express disagreement with laws
  • express disagreement with court decisions.
  • disagree with both

That’s what I am doing.
Are we on this forum, now supposed to shut up because “That’s what the law says and we should never speak out against laws?” What I am encountering is truly a confusing argument.

I think in particular land regulation is a place where both parties find a lot of places to agree - and agree that the current law is absurd. There’s a housing bill in both houses right now that addresses some of this and it’s bipartisan cosponsorship in both house. It’s far from perfect but it’s progress.

No one has told you to not share your opinion about this story. I just pointed out that the parties who complained where justified based on the zoning laws in that parish.

It’s one thing to decide to move near a playground and then complain about the noise. It’s another to have a playground built near your house that doesn’t following the zoning laws.

Ha shephersds pie here is crap , full of cheese and ■■■■.

Though I will say us Brits are crap at things like ribs.

Shephers pie I grew up with subsitituted beef for mutton, but was
Grund beef with English vegetables,
topped with mashed potatoes.

Your basic one-pot meal.

Today in Food network (and apparently Haute Cusine everywhere)
a wel-plated dish is supposedtoahve all the foods stacked on top of one another
(just like shepherd’s pie).

I am impressed

My wife likes Shepards Pie with beef.

She can’t stand it with mutton.

I don’t like it either way.
