Probably. The more things change the more they stay the same after all.
Only thing I would hope for with a new Iranian regime is that they stop supporting so many foreign terrorist groups. They do that and they have my full support regardless of whatever else they want to do.
Pahlavi is not necessarily going to lead any new government in Iran. Not all Iranians want a return to the monarchy. I would like to see Iranians get a voice in whatever new world emerges if the current regime falls.
With that said I know he has postioned himself as a transitional leader but there are a lot of competing elements to step in if the regime falls.
Maybe Pahlavi needs to go to Iran to lead the protests. I am always suspicious of someone urging others to put themselves in harm way, while they live in safety.
If the people of Iran want a return to the Shah or want Phalvi as leader then all good and fine but it has to be their decision.
Interesting times ahead for the Iranian people and I hope by the end of 2026 they find themselves in a position to start building a new society out from the shackles of the current extremist regime.
Is that why in every city the chants of “long live the king” and Pahlavi is returning" are so prevalent? The vast majority want him to return and want a constitutional monarchy. Pahlavi hasn’t even called for that, he is wanting a secular democracy and says nothing about his own place in it except that he will aid with the transition and does not seek a place in it. He is calling for a national referendum for the Iranian people to decide their new form of government. What I see coming is a democracy where the Parliament chooses the PM not the king. I do believe the king himself will be made the CinC of the armed forces, but the Parliament will have the power to declare war and the king will have little if any domestic power or responsibility.
