Marines urged to stop using “Sir and Ma’am”?

It’s a disruptive distraction that jeopardizes good order and discipline. When that breaks down, people get killed.

Continue a history of our military members being respectful and considerate perhaps. Why does that bother you?

If we have non-binary officers, which is very likely, that aren’t comfortable being called Sir or Ma’am why do you see it as wrong that our military wants to adopt a policy that affords those officers this small courtesy when it will not disrespect in any way cisgender officers?

Please articulate what harm you see this causing anyone in our military so I can understand where you’re coming from. Or does it just bother you and others here complaining that it’s a courtesy to transgender and non-binary people. Who, I will add, are serving our country and deserve our thanks and respect.

Well I believe and I’m sure many would agree that it was a much larger distraction when the military decided to integrate or allow gay soldiers to serve openly, than it will be to simply have Marines address superior officers by their rank instead of Sir or Ma’am and it has gotten along just fine.

Do you really believe it would be too disruptive for Marines to make this small change? I just don’t see it.

I don’t believe that. Allowing gay did not require people to change a basic custom and courtesy, you just had to keep your opinion to yourself.

It is not a small change. I have been retired for 6 years and still call people sir ma’am. You obviously never served.

That is not to say they can’t train recruits from here on. But trying to reverse years of custom and courtesy habits is not easy.

Raiklin, a former lieutenant colonel, retired from the military after serving for 25 years because the Pentagon began promoting vaccine mandates and equity training. He stressed to host Tucker Carlson that in order to defend the nation’s Constitution, one must know what the Constitution says.

Facinating. He retired from the military “because of vaccine mandates” - way back in 2018, when he tried to run for Congress.

Eat your sheeple food, as they say.

Sir and Ma’am are respectful. Always have been; always will be. This is nonsense and everyone … including you … knows that it’s nonsense. Pushing it onto the members of our armed forces do harm by pushing out those who stand against the nonsense and it will hurt recruitment of anyone who doesn’t want to put up with it. By any assessment, that is harm, not to the individuals, but to the Armed Services and therefore, the Country.

To locate, close with and initiate a meaningful dialog on what may be found offensive.

Which in itself is offensive.

Prior to any conversation about pronouns in this country, I’m sure you would have said that it was not respectful for Marines to address a male officer as Ma’am. Never mind how bad for their health that would have been.

If you had heard a story about a platoon of Marines who insisted on calling their male lieutenant Ma’am, you would have said they were being disrespectful because they were addressing him with a noun that was not accurate for him.

The point of this change is that the Marines are recognizing that they may have now or certainly will have at some time non-binary officers who will not be comfortable being addressed as Sir or Ma’am.

Do you really think it is nonsense for the Marines to make a change that will show those Marines the respect they deserve by not forcing them to be addressed by a noun that is not accurate for them?

We’ll have to disagree as to how many bigoted young people we have in this country who would find this as nonsense and keep them otherwise joining.

People who join the military, especially the Marines, do so for reasons far more important to them than this.

You really think that having to simply address someone by their rank instead of Sir or Ma’am will be more upsetting to people than it was when they integrated black soldiers with white? Or having to serve with openly homosexual soldiers?

Sure, you’d make mistakes out of habit for awhile and say Sir or Ma’am, and catch yourself or be corrected. But are you honestly telling me that that small thing would have prevented you from being able to do your job or maintain your discipline?

Just so I’m clear, is that what you are saying here? I find it hard to believe. I could believe that you or others might not like it, but not that it would upset enough people so much that it would break down good order and discipline as was claimed.

And not that it matters at all, but, lol - yes I served. As did my Father, brother and nephew(just retired last year after completing his 20) .

We’ll see. I hear rumblings to reinitiate the draft due to low enlistments.

Fabricated stories are not pertinent.

OK tell me when you are at attention and a male voice behind you gives an order. How you gonna address him? You can’t see him or his rank.

Yes when they had been taught something and are really strict about it. That is what basic does. When there is punishment involved for making a mistake out of habit that was taught by the very people who are now punishing them, yes it is a problem.

What you want is to change the instruction and customs for 200k Marines so a couple of dozen can feel better. Why don’t you change the thought process of the couple of dozen? Tell them not to take offense. People like you want everyone else to conform but don’t ever do it yourself.

Thankfully, after 247 years, they’re going to address the important issues in the Marine Coprs.

China and putin are going to love your new politically correct pansy military.

No they won’t. They’d be happy if we locked up homosexual, transgender and non-binary people.

You don’t really want to emulate their values in our military do you?

This is a stretch. Do you really see this as a problem that would occur very often?

Who was it that put you in this position of attention before this strange male voice showed up? Does the order entail movement? Or does he just want you to tap your heels together and repeat “There’s no place like home” until he tells you to stop.

I find the suggestion of punishment for someone forgetting and using Sir or Ma’am ridiculous. Unless it became obvious that a Marine was just refusing to comply and doing it repeatedly on purpose.

No. What I want is for the Marines to carry on their tradition of showing respect for people, including their officers regardless if they are a minority or not.

People like me recognize that society grows and changes. We no longer find it acceptable to hear black men and women addressed as the N word, we no longer find it acceptable to hear homosexuals addressed as ■■■■ or dykes. There were plenty of people that just wanted to tell them not to take offense instead. People like me are glad that society and the Marines didn’t listen to them.

Everyone in basic numerous times. Every formation or inspection.

Yet that is what happens in military.

■■■■■■■■ you want the mass to conform to the few. Unless you were in the military in 60s that didn’t happen.
