Bingo!
Good post! Why the ■■■■ is someone’s personal sexuality any of our ■■■■■■■ business?
I’ll just say again, that in our history, people said the same thing about black Marines and soldiers being integrated into what had been exclusively white barracks and jobs. And when homosexual soldiers wanted to be able to serve openly. And those people were wrong.
As of right now I see stats that 5% of young adults in the U.S. are identifying as trans or non-binary. The Marines recognize that they are going to begin getting more and more non-binary/trans officers and wants to do better than they have in the past with minority groups.
I applaud them for it. I can see many of you do not. I think you’re all upset about nothing.
“Sir” and “Ma’am” have nothing to do with the integration of non-binary officers.
4.9999% just going with what they think is cool.
I’m not. Some of the guys in my flight were pulled to spend the day clearing lockers out of a building that was going to be renovated and it must have been near the girls dorms. And after several weeks without seeing a girl they all looked like 10s. At any rate there was a female TI running the show and I answered her as Sir and of course got ripped a new one and mocked ferociously for a minute in front of everyone included the girls that were there cleaning out small items or whatever they were up too.
No punishment, just a normal one of 10 a day dressing downs.
Could be. I’m pretty sure I have as tough a time understanding this trans/non-gender stuff nearly as much as you and others.
To my mind, a lot of it is simply based on them (young people) starting to use a new vocabulary, just new verbiage, like non-binary to describe what they consider different levels of masculinity and femininity.
I can either rage against it, like my gramps and pop did against rock and roll, or try to understand it and them. I’m choosing the later.
First, you can share the post where you think I said sir or ma’am would affect anyone’s health if you like. But I think you inferred something that was not there, but I never intentionally typed that or think it now.
Well you are free to paint members of the military with a broad brush in your image if you like, but members of the military in my world are diverse, independent thinkers who see things like this in many different ways.
You’re free to your opinion, but you should remember that that is all it is.
Why?
…
He was the one that said “People like me” first. I was responding using the same language. I can’t help you if you don’t understand why I did that.
If you really don’t want to know someone’s personal sexuality/gender identity or don’t want Marines to have to endure knowing someone’s sexuality/gender identity then you should definitely support this change.
If every officer is just addressed by rank then no transgender or non-binary officer will ever have to tell someone that they want to be addressed differently than with the normal Sir or Ma’am.
See! With this change you would never have to know. IT’S A WIN WIN!

They’re going to love your new pansy military that is more worried about what name their called than winning wars.

And I’ll simply say again, why should the military adapt to that miniscule 5% rather than that 5% adapting to a military lifestyle…as has been done with EVERYONE else for centuries?
And with that question, I’m looking for a valid reason beyond faux virtue.
I can’t help you understand why, I’m not your parent or moral instructor.
The military doesn’t make changes with regard to having it’s members show each other respect and courtesy only if they are not a minority. As they have demonstrated repeatedly with blacks, women and homosexuals who want to serve their country.
They’ve clearly adapted for very small percentages in the past. Claiming they haven’t is faux outrage.
So you want a strong military like Russia’s?

“Guys”? “Girl’s dorms”? “Girl”? “Female”? Those are binary descriptions. Shame on you.
I presume this anecdote occurred long before the silly “don’t call 'em sir or ma’am” nonsense. What could they charge you with to punish you over?

He was the one that said “People like me” first. I was responding using the same language. I can’t help you if you don’t understand why I did that.
I got that.
So what kind of people are you?
You and others can pretend there are going to be charges filed and punishments levied for people slipping up if it makes you feel better. Call me when you have an actual case to show.
And I am very proud of you for catching and pointing out the gender based nouns I used. Well done!
That’s my current vocabulary though. I can see a couple of changes that I could make, but I really don’t know how I’d write that without using the (female and girl(s)). But I’ll leave that to the young people to figure out and if I’m still around when they do, I’ll use the knew words.
And I won’t cry and have a temper tantrum over it. Or mock it just because I don’t completely understand it.
Okay
