Incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez left Americans scratching their heads this week; directly comparing her 2018 midterm victory to the lunar landing and “establishing civil rights.”

Cortez was speaking with supporters in Washington, DC while promoting her ‘Green New Deal’ initiative; a program to re-invest in clean energy while moving America away from fossil fuels.

“We’ve done what we thought was impossible,” said Cortez. “We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dug deep and we did it. We did it, when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year. That’s what so many of us did.”

Yes.

She is comparing her election and the election of so many other Democrats to the Moon Landing.

But only in that both events were things that many people thought could never be done.

She is right.
