The son of a fallen Texas police officer got a huge show of support on his first day of school, when more than 50 local law enforcement officers lined up to greet him and wish him good luck.

Seventh grader Joaquin Espericueta lost his father, Cpl. Jose “Speedy” Espericueta Jr. of Mission, Texas, just a few months ago when he responded to a fellow officer’s call for assistance; Cpl. Espericueta was shot at the scene.

“Police and sheriff’s department employees wanted to make the first day of school for one of Espericueta’s two children special. Law enforcement from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Mission police, Edinburg police, and McAllen police all showed up early Monday to greet Joaquin on his first day,” reports the Washington Examiner.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office captured the show of support on social media.

“The seventh grader was greeted with hugs by a few male officers, then ushered through a long procession of law enforcement leading from the curb up a few dozen feet to the building doors.” adds the repot.

Cpl. Espericueta was the recipient of a Meritorious Service Award for saving an elderly woman from a burning house. The community recently held an event in his honor.
