It is INSANE to suggest he testify first. How can he defend himself if he can’t answer to her accusations, except going by what’s in a redacted letter?
As is with testifying before Congress under oath and lying is a criminal offense, filing a false police report in Maryland is a crime and punishable with a six month jail sentence and $500 fine.

I think a background investigation into the allegations is what is warranted. One would think Judge Kavanaugh would welcome an investigation to clear his name, but for some reason he hasn’t asked for one.
It really doesn’t matter at this point. The internet sleuths have done all the investigating. Folks are going to believe what they’re going to believe at this point. She’s(DiFi) just dragging it out to use as a political issue, and having the vote would get everything out there quick. And DiFi should give Grassley all correspondence or be censured.

Background investigation on something that old would be the interview of the person making the allegation. The interview of the person alleged to have committed the crime. The interview of any knows witnesses willing to sit for an interview. If the witnesses refuse to be interviewed, they can’t be compelled. The statements to the FBI (remember it’s against the law to lie to the FBI) would be put into the background file for the white house (and committee members to read).
That would essentially be the extent of the background investigation on a 40 year old case.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I certainly don’t like the idea of having anyone on the bench who is guilty of sexually assaulting anyone.
I think those who are protesting so vehemently know the allegations are very likely true and that’s why they love the idea of a deadline and definitely don’t want it investigated.
