Mark Longo observes a mother squirrel get killed by a car. He takes her baby into his house and feeds it and cares for it. The squirrel becomes his pet and is like a dog, but with the agility of a cat. He makes numerous videos on tic toc and instagram of him and his wife with the squirrel.
Department of Environmental Conservation officials, who showed up to Longo’s New York home with a search warrant that four judges sign off on last week. The DEC said Peanut bit one of the investigators, forcing them to euthanize the squirrel and raccoon so they could be tested for rabies.
Yeah. No stress for the poor little squirrel or raccoon. Any animal will bite when they are stressed.
Why euthanize the raccoon? Did he bite too? Or, just because the squirrel bit someone the raccoon must be infected with rabies, too? Don’t they wear gloves or something or do they just invade your home.
Those judges and the DEC need to wear a badge of shame.
Poor, poor Peanut. Never did anything to hurt anyone. He just brought joy to a family.
I just lost a beautiful soul a couple of weeks ago. Mr. Pickles, my African Ring Neck Parakeet. He was only six months old. I feel for these people and their broken hearts.
No one should be able to invade your home like this and kill your pets.
My birdie had an incurable disease that came from the place I bought him. I did not know until the vet did everything he could to save him and came back with the results.
We bond with our friends. They have such a huge place in our hearts. When they are gone, we miss them terribly.
We have to weed out the mindless bureaucrats that can’t understand or comprehend the grey areas.
My heart breaks for poor Peanut and the family that gave him a home and love.
