“The lawsuit, filed by Maryland and the District of Columbia, centers on whether Trump is violating the Constitution by continuing to do business with foreign and state governments while serving as president. Earlier this year, U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte ruled that the historic case could proceed, opening the door for the plaintiffs to seek internal records from Trump’s hotel in downtown Washington.”

If the dude is not gonna divest and continue making money (potentially off foreign governments) and make money by simply being the president, then he should have to answer some questions. Hell, he’s has time to watch a bunch of TV every day. I’m sure he has the time to tell his business staff to prepare for trial.

Trump owning so many assets that are now being used for government business are waters that were not supposed to be encountered and are unchartered. There should be some scrutiny on his investments and how they are being used by government while he is President.

No one forced Trump to run for President, He should have divested from his business. Instead, he’s making money off the office he holds. His weekend trips to his golf courses is taxpayer money going directly in his pocket. I’d imagine if Obama was doing this, the same usual suspects here would be screaming the loudest about corruption. But not even a peep out of them on this.

This is probably the most lawless president I have seen in my lifetime.

No, he should not have been forced to divest. What do you think happens to the value of assets the buyer knows you must sell? They should have went into a trust. Not a blind trust, which would mean having to liquidate his assets first. And the Trust shouldn’t be controlled by his children or anyone that close to him.

He did neither.

Hence my use of the word should.

How do you feel about this lawsuit?

I think his ongoing financial interests conflicting with his office should be part of the articles of impeachment.

I also hope that the federal government takes back all the taxpayer money that went directly to his own company while he was in office. It’s blatant corruption going on in plain sight.

I’m no Trump fan, but it would take years to divest himself of such numerous holdings. Not sure what the answer is, but it is too much to ask in the real world.

which then means our president can be massively compromised.

Again, it would take several years (quite possibly more) at least to divest himself so what is the answer?

Oh, I’m not arguing the time. I’m saying that a person could be up to their eyeballs in debt with the Iranian government and we’d never know about it and they would be compromised the entire time.

I agree with this.

If they cant fabricate anything with Russia, obstruction of justice and the perjury trap is also exposed, now they try it with his business…

Simple solution no more using Trump owned hotels for vacations.

Or new rule the people who have to serve or protect the president pay nothing for accommodations at any property owned by the people they are caring for.

And a lot of politician’s have divested their holdings, even Dick Cheney lol, but I don’t think we’ve had a situation like this before. I worry about it some, but I still don’t know what can be done about it.
