Judge refuses same sex marriages

If she performs it and does the paperwork, no matter when or were, it is an official act.

:joy:

My my my! These churches celebrate same sex unions, and, IIRC, Unitarian churches accept GLBTQ individuals & couples & officiate such weddings. This church also teaches the oneness of God & might be a better fit for those not accepting the Gospel of Jesus.

It doesn’t in the OP linked article even state the rejected couple(s) filed the complaint, but another member of the legal establishment. Is Texas a state that allows conscientious objection?

I swear the mindset of some folks is like Groucho Marx’ famous quotation: “I’m skeptical of any club that would actually have me as a member.” Any number of ministers and secular officials would be more than happy to state “We are gathered here today” to celebrate the union of Adam and Steve or Ann and Eve”, but no! They want to force some Judge who wants nothing to do with such an event into it.

Unbelievable!!!

Yes its a problem, no discriminations.

I’m sorry, what?!

It appears the state of Texas grants broad religious exemptions, and, as has been stated by other posters, a judge need not perform ANY marriages.

She officiates all marriage or none.

Yep and that means she marries everyone who wants one or no one.

Which is exactly what she should do if can’t be impartial in using her official powers to marry a couple.

Perhaps it would be best if Judge Hensley got out of performing any weddings, then.

But according to law of the state of Texas, there is room to state religious exemptions to various transactions.

By that law, especially since Judge Hensley gave those couples referrals to other judges, it appears she is within legal limits.

Anger on behalf of someone else. That’s a true social justice warrior right there.

The fact that she got reprimand says otherwise.

How dare a person care about how someone else is treated.

Isn’t it almost always?

If that’s the criteria for a social justice warrior then basically on everyone on earth is a social justice warrior, including Christians, Trump supporters, etc.

Perpetuating the nonsense that she referred the to other judges isn’t going to make it true

Yes.

Dollars to doughnuts those rejected couples have long since gotten happily married by someone else and even gone on their honeymoon.

That official who not only got angry with but filed a complaint against Judge Hensley needs to do as they have and get a life.

That “nonsense” is right here in the article linked by the O P.

And it appears the state of Texas, in another https://www.lgbtmap.org/img/maps/citations-religious-exemption.pdf

link does allow for broad exemptions based on religion.

It also appears, per the O P, the rejected couples have nothing to do with the complaint against Judge Hensley.

Where in the article does it state that she referred them to JUDGES?

If two people have the proper documentation, you go to the jop and get hitched.

It’s not a religious wedding.

If she does not want to perform the job she was elected to she needs to go.

It’s pretty simple.

They were discriminated against, equal treatment under the law.

It’s an easy concept.
