He was the President and actually did care for the military he commanded. He also recognized the disarray the service was in after Vietnam. He appointed Gen Meyer as Chief of Staff of the Army in 79. Gen Meyer kicked ass and re-established discipline in the Army during his tenure. President Carter wasn’t a skilled tactician, or truly capable of inspiring leadership of the nation. He was too good of a person, lacking that necessary ruthless streak need in all Presidents to deal with the world. As I said, he found his true calling, as one of our nations greatest humanitarians, after leaving the presidency.
I think in Carter’s case you are absolutely right. He did not have the alpha-male nastiness that is often necessary to deal with cold reality of both domestic and international politics. But as an individual, he was as good as they come.
Could be Vance. If Trump does good on this second term with measurable results he could inherit the crown and use it for his own run.
Also, the Dems do have some combat vets in congress they could get to run if they felt confident enough to support them. Two of them are women actually.
If I was a dem strategist and it looked like Vance was being prepped to run, I’d get one of those two ladies to give it a shot. I think one of them was a Blackhawk pilot and I believe she lost a leg in a helicopter crash avoiding enemy fire or something like that. I can’t remember their names.
You think the president elect has respect for the military? They better not get captured because he loathes those losers. An actual quote. Don’t make Trump into something hes not.
