Is MAGA a cult?

please….

I found the same article when reviewing my thoughts on the subject. That helped me keep things in perspective.

Back when I was in college, I was deeply involved in the Jesus movement. During that time, I was able to see up close and personal, what a real cult looked like. MAGA is not a cult, by any definition.

There are plenty to choose from. Pick the one(s) you feel to be most relevant and let’s discuss.

Well we could go one by one and see. It was posted as a good starting point for discussion. Thanks for starting the thread

this doesnt explain how it goes against someone’s best interests. not even close

Trump is selling bibles, bitcoin, sneakers, stock in himself etc. and his supporters are buying it up. He was asking supporters to donate for his legal fees.

He is only doing this because he knows his supporters will buy it.

It’s not in any of our best interests to continue giving billionaires tax breaks.

What I’m witnessing today are those among us that don’t think for themselves. I don’t know if they’re lazy or just a lower IQ but they allow others to do their thinking for them. I’ve called them “sheople” for the last several years because IMO…it’s the simple description that applies the best. They simply regurgibleat the following day, what they were fed by the sheople troughs the night before. Right now, since Trump won…it’s pile on “MAGA”. It makes me laugh as they point their "V"irtuous fingers and refuse to look at the sheoplized person staring back at themselves in the mirror. This thread is a good example of what I just said. I’ll let you…the individual…conclude which side you’re on. :sunglasses: :tumbler_glass:

Populism is exactly this.

Immigrants are bad… build a wall… Mexico will pay for it. Mexico didn’t pay for it.

On a personal level, there was good and bad. That’s just the nature of humanity. Same applies today.

From a legal standpoint, or how non-whites were viewed as citizens, it was all bad. Just the nature of it.

I think the country has made enormous steps since then. But I also have no desire to return to that time. Every single time period has good and bad things about it. And unfortunately, they’re kind of a package deal.

Trump is an entrepreneur. Look at all of his Trump hotels, golf courses. He was doing that kind of stuff long before he ran for President.

Back when Obama was at the height of his popularity, he could have probably done the same thing, and his supporters would have scooped it up. But Obama isn’t the entrepreneur that Trump is.

Has nothing to do with a cult personality.

Obama did a little bit of it after he left office. He produced a few Netflix programs.

Both political parties offer their over-inflated transformative vision for America. Neither of those visions has anything to do with the cult Big Idea you refer to.

What you reference is religious in nature, promising a savior to deliver one from their life of misery. Has nothing to do with half the country embracing Trump’s MAGA message, and it has nothing to do with populism.

Religion isn’t mentioned at all in that paragraph

It is implied.

It makes vague promises of meaning and salvation.

From first-hand experience, I know exactly what is being talked about in The Big Idea

Jim Jones and Jonestown is a prime example.

Cult of personality has a different definition and it fits maga to a tee.

You can’t be serious. Trump isn’t idolized?

Salvation isn’t a strictly religious word.

Trump for sure has a Mao Zedong complex. That can’t be denied at this point.

When I think of Cult of Personality, I think of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, etc…

MAGA, nor Trump isn’t remotely similar.
