Con Edison warned millions of New Yorkers to prepare for more power outages in the weeks ahead Monday; confirming the utility company is still unsure what caused Saturday’s Manhattan black-out.

“We expect that there could be service outages — those things happen during heat waves,” said a spokesperson for Con Edison.

“We know it’s going to be intense,” he added; referencing an incoming heat wave carrying temperatures expected to surpass 100 degrees. “This heat wave coming up is something else and we’ve got to get ready for it.”

NYC officials are still unclear what caused the blackout, with early reports saying a fire had taken down a key power station proven untrue.

“There’s a lot of patience and poise that New Yorkers displayed during the outage itself. The same kind of patience and diligence is gonna be needed as engineers and experts dive into the date and actually analyze how equipment tripped off, or what went wrong, that led to the large outage,” added the spokesperson. “Unfortunately, with outages like this, it takes a little bit of time and understanding.”

Thousands of New Yorkers were abruptly plunged into darkness during a busy Saturday evening in Midtown Manhattan; stranding theater goers, tourists, local workers, and residents without subway service or functioning traffic lights.
