Yes, I know that sounds odd coming from a fair minded individual such as myself. But I do! But only when it’s done in super high taxed states and is taken from liberals who voted to have their wealth confiscated. So a city in Illinois has decided that they need to write a check of $25,000 to all black decendents of people who resided there from 1919 to 1969. That means they will be sending checks all over the country. Currently they have paid out 6.3 million dollars. A new payment of 25k is going out to 44 additional folks. And here’s the kicker. They think they can pay all of these folks with 10 million dollars. 10 mil covers EXACTLY 400 people! So what happens to the tens of thousands of people who get nothing? Think they will be pissed?
A bribery payment from people who were never slaves, in a state that was never a slave state by people who never owned slaves. Gotta love it!
Oh BTW. 260,000 men from Illinois fought in the civil war. Their decedents get nothing.
Yeah. Libs who think they can never be taxed high enough should stay and appease their white guilt. Normal people should get out of there. The sooner, the better.
Who really cares? The city legislature voted on it and it passed. If the residents don’t like it then they can vote out the representatives at the next election.
On the wider issue of reparations, ai honestly do not know enough about the topic. Though it does seem money would be better spent on improving infrastructure to enhance education and job opportunities.
There are a bunch of research and studies out that that shows giving people “no strings attached” cash transfers significantly improves their food security, increases financial stability, and enhances their mental health.
And history shows that confiscating money from producers and redistributing it to those who didn’t produce it pisses producers off. It decreases their mental health…
These reparations aren’t for slavery. It’s for housing discrimination. Which if they can direct point to the discrimination and those impacted… I have no issue with it.
The payout is for those impacted by that cities house discrimination policies between 1919 and 1969. That city took money from black tax payers then denied them housing.
If they took the time to verify everything then I don’t have an issue with it. If you’re gonna do reparations that’s how it should’ve done. Repayment to those who were directly harmed by discriminatory policies.
My main issue with the reparations debate is that many people always go strictly off of race. There’s no research. They want it done easy. And to me that’s fundamentally flawed.
Kind of crazy how popular she is among “movement conservatives” considering she was a die hard atheist and felt that the concept of the “free market” should be the new God of the Republic.
