I still am.

I find folks on the Right having vapors over this hilarious, considering their leader’s conduct over the years. When Trump does it, its all “He’s just like one of us!”, when Biden does it they reel to the fainting couch.
I think folks on the Right underestimate what their allowance of Trump’s worse inclinations has created. There is nothing Joe can do that Trump hasn’t already done, and done worse. Nepotism? Hell, that is the story of Trump’s life. Mumbled words and verbal gaffes? Check and check.
The Right paved the way for Biden this entire time, against a conventional and competent Republican I don’t think we would ever nominate Biden, he would get destroyed. But when you have Trump as a contrast almost anything seems better.
Trump’s behavior is often beneath the respect the office deserves and there’s no question about that. I’ve said that here many times. It embarrasses me…like what he said to John McCain? That was sooooo inappropriate…especially for the position he was running for. This isn’t a medical issue though. He’s just a beligerant ass sometimes.
Biden’s behavior is a medical issue, not a behavioral one. You’re in the medical business so your opinion is more professional than mine…do you disagree?
Of course I disagree. I see no notable decline in comparison with prior observances over the years. The man has a severe speaking disability and he compensates for it poorly. I think that he compensates by trying to speak faster, but he cannot process the words smoothly that way and winds up using similar words as a defense mechanism.
It would be the equivalent of someone with dyslexia trying to compensate by reading faster. You’re not making things better.
He is cogent, A&Ox3, no visible gait irregularities or resting tremors, has visible affect changes and shows varying timbers in his speaking patterns. His facial muscles are symmetric, no signs of palsy. He runs a few miles every day, which reflects good muscle tone and balance. He shows no sign of short term memory loss and responds to questions appropriately, well as appropriate as any politician would.
He has had 2 significant neurologic events and a lifelong stutter. He seemingly struggles with speaking, but I observed him last night in his speech and he was clear, concise and purposeful.
I didn’t like it when Reagan was criticized for being a bit off, and he actually HAD Alzheimers.
Now, Alzheimers is not the only dementia. Multi-infarct dementia is another and the one he could be more closely linked to since he had aneurysms but it would never display this way. Lewy Body dementia is more motor related and is akin to Parkinsonian presentations. Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is related to lifelong alcoholism and is highlighted by compulsive lying, which would be useful for a politician but he doesn’t drink heavily.
Truth be told, the simplest answer is probably he is a guy in his 70s in reasonable health with a speaking impediment and troubles with public speech. He doesn’t forget where he is, he knows his family and friends are, and is functioning in a high capacity.
If you have ever had someone with Alzheimers in your life, and I hope you never do, I would imagine that hearing folks on the Right labeling Joe with this would trigger hurt feelings. This disease is not a political cudgel, it destroys families and shouldn’t be used as a political tool.

Regards,
Such a good post that it needed to be repeated here. As always Torey, you bring logic and expertise into the discussion. Thank you!

Old Joe gets fighting mad with supporters so what will he do with some truly difficult questions from Trump?
I will need some popcorn for that 1st debate.

I’m pretty sure he challenged that guy to a duel yesterday.
While telling the young black woman to “Hush! Hush! Hush!”
He’s gonna do this thing hamilton style.
She has aged very well.

Regards,
Great post.
I see ol’ Joe as having some age-related memory problems and slowing of his cognitive functioning, but nothing that unusual. The stress and strain of the campaign trail probably magnifies these issues.
Trump? Well, he just plain loco.

Everybody should be concerned about Joe’s mental health.
I’m not.
I only want tons more of what he’s been doing.
It’s completely normal.
I’ve been saying this since last April btw.
obiden, obiden, obiden

What difficult questions could Donald Trump ask Joe Biden?
Name? Age? Where are you? Why are you here?

LucyLou:
Does Donald really have new auto plants being built all over Michigan?
Did he say he did?
Yes he said it yesterday.

I await the results.

His tweet about the auto industry contained a final unrelated statement about non auto plants in Michigan?
Oh… I see this coming. This is going to be one of those Trump translations where the beginning of the phrase has nothing to do with the end of the phrase in order for it to make sense.
Damn… he is a sneaky guy that President Trump.
