Well that all depends on what your major was, what type of job you got afterwards, who paid for it, and how much you paid at the time. But that is not the crux of what I’m contending here. The fact is much of the course work in college adds little to nothing to someone’s productivity in the workforce (for most professions - a doctor would be one of the exceptions to this).
No my problem is making all the other classes requirements that are not part of ones major. That extra time and does nothing to enhance ones productivity in the workforce. It just enriches colleges and college presidents.
I’m all for freedom of choice. If someone wants to use their own money and spend 4, 6, 8 or more years of their life in college is their prerogative. The thing is we as a country have a huge debt problem with the current state of higher education. Part of that problem is the skyrocketing cost of higher education. Also life isn’t all about going to college.
I went to CCNY. It was tuition free to NYC residents from 1848 to 1976, which was my freshman year. After that tuition increased a little each year. The cost is now comparable to most second tier colleges in the area.
There are programs like that for science and math majors looking to go into teaching. A good portion of their tuition costs will be covered if they teach at inner city school after graduation. I’m not sure who pays for it though.
That would still have to be funded. In the example above the school basically got a ■■■■ load of money from donors. It wasn’t because the college president and other high salaried employees took a massive pay cut and gave up their perks.
Oh absolutely it needs to be reformed!!! I would NOT call them institutions of Higher Education. Our public universities are Institutions of Indoctrination. So much has changed over the past 50 years, and they have descended down to the depths of depravity! The literary canon is nothing now but pornography, sin and debauchery, and the Leftist Liberal professors are indoctrinating our students with Socialist, Communist, Marxist ideology. Leave your diploma rolled up next to the toilet; it can be put to good use there!
