Higher Education in America – too expensive, takes too much time, has a limited “shelf-life", and consists of a great deal of content that has limited practical value

I’m not sure most people ever advocated college for everyone. We need a broad range of workers - people trained in medicine, engineering, construction, electricians, teachers, entrepreneurs, money managers, car mechanics…

I believe college-educated young people benefit society and I’m a strong believer in the liberal arts education, but far from all people need a college education. We focused too exclusively on it in past decades.

We also need to consider removing so much of the licensing and regulation around many professions. We don’t need gatekeepers for, as examples, beauticians and pet groomers (your state may vary). Nurses should have multiple pathways to licensure including a 4-yr degree path but also, a trade school specifically for RN’s.

(Just now realizing this convo is from 2018?)

Just ignore the man who studies it.

Yes, ignore the women who study it too. What even is history?

Who advocated college for everyone?

Women aren’t studying the state of males in the US workforce today.

Women don’t build. Women don’t lead. Literature PhDs don’t keep a country running.

History is useless except as a hobby.

Universities. Parents. Financial institutions. Corporations. Dems. Women.

It’s ok, the young males are figuring it out.

Well there we have it.

Ah yes. Just a hobby.

Indeed. Biological fact. Do you deny it?

Absolutely. History doesn’t put bacon on the plate.

Not only are you a racist, but you also seem to be a misogynist.

The majority of high schools exist just for that purpose. High schools do a ■■■■■■ job of preparing students for the real world.

Yes, I do.

Regarding building things he’s correct. Here’s a thought experiment, imagine what America would look like if from it’s founding men had refused to work in any type of trade or hard labor? Do you believe women would have picked up the slack?

they did during WW2. or is Rosie the riveter, merely propaganda for the masses.

Allan

Well, that’s a shame. Denying science, tsk, tsk.

“Boss babe” is a mythical construct. It doesn’t exist.

Try something as simple as men not picking up the trash for two weeks.

Not to mention females would never be able to eat pickles again.

Hogwash. They were working for men.

Who built the riveters? The rivets? Who taught them how to do it? Decided where the rivets go? Designed the equipment the rivets go on? Moved the rivets from the rivet factory to the rivet machine?

When HS should be teaching basic life skills. Not college prep.
