He hung the earth upon nothing

It was instructions for the spread of leprosy - a bacterial disease. Leprosy spreads through water droplets that have come from a person that is infectious. For example, when an infectious person sneezes or coughs.

Most people who develop leprosy have been in long-term contact with an infectious person, which means they live with or near them, or perhaps work with them.

It is also possible to be exposed to leprosy through animals and through dirt.

Some of the Jewish converts were trying to serve both the Law of Moses and the Law of Liberty and Paul was teaching the saints in Rome.
Romans 14.

He taught that — no gospel principle is involved in eating or not eating, or esteeming one day above another or esteeming every day alike. He said to be persuaded in their own mind.

It’s sad to think people today have made laws where Jesus gave none.

In verse 6, Paul said: “He who observes the day, observes [it] to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe [it]. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.”

There was no sanctity attaching to one day that was not attached to all, but some Jewish Christians thought that one day was holier than another. — like the moon and the new moon and the sabbath. Most of the disciples knew this, but there was no obedience or disobedience involved in the their eating of meats.

In vs 17, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. . . .”

I know I’m preaching to the choir. lol

Wasn’t that the same group of guys Desmond Dawes and his family was with? I think that’s the reason he had to be a medic in WWII because he wasn’t allowed to even handle a weapon that could kill other men because of his faith but he wanted to serve anyway.

And my old coworker never understood why I could never convert to Islam. I can’t do anything that doesn’t allow me to eat pork.

You’ve seen Hacksaw Ridge. Men like him are the rarest on Earth.

Masks are useless in some things, especially when worn incorrectly.

Yes Adventists are pacifists. My Pastor, when I was a kid went to prison for refusing to fight in WW II. I believe they’ve eased up on that position today, but then as I said, as long as people put money in the collection plate…

From the bottom of my cold dark heart, I admire people’s ability to have that kind of dedicating to blind faith. Sometimes I truly wish I could do that too.

Paul withstood Peter to his face over this behavior. It’s clear in the NY, especially in Galatians that gentiles are not under OT law. Praise Jesus for that! I don’t think I would have made a very good OT Jew.

When I became an Adventist by my own choice, ( as opposed to being dragged as a teenager), I was convinced they were the true church, it was literally a moment of epiphany that I left. I am now a Baptist by choice but I certainly don’t believe Baptists are the only Christians.

A literal interpretation of multiple passages from the Old Testament would say that the earth is on fixed foundations and does not move. Were Galileo and Copernicus really heretics?

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding . . .
Job 38:4

He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. Psalm 104:5

In reference to the shape of the earth, Isaiah said “He sitteth above the circle of the earth.”

Jesus referred to the three divisions of the day, stating that His second appearing would occur: at the dawn; in the day and in the night. Luke 17 This would be totally impossible if the earth is flat but Jesus knowing the fact of the earth rotundity, (something the world at that time did not know) was able to make an accurate statement, even though those who listened to him did not know.

Jesus’ teaching here is brought outside of the range of human knowledge.

Yes, it says the “circle of the earth”, not the sphere or globe of the earth. That sounds a lot like Discworld. Here is one representation of the cosmos based on a literal interpretation of the Old Testament:

The ancient Greeks determined the diameter of the earth a few hundred years after the time of Isaiah. Ancient and medieval texts frequently show the universe as concentric spheres with the earth at the center.

The New Covenant Scriptures helped me to understand the Old Covenant Scriptures.

God created His new world of Spiritual people From 1 Tim 3, The pillar is the central support, as the pillars, of a building and when taken away the structure falls. The ground is the base, the foundation upon which the pillars rest.

1 Peter 3:1 "So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation; 3 for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. 4 Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; 5 and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 7 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, “The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,”

We are living stones. We are on a firm foundation, grounded in Christ, but at the same time we are growing, living and moving.

The earth is living, moving and growing. But like us, it cannot be moved.

We are built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone.

It is a sure foundation that cannot be shaken.

As did Greek mathematicians in the 3rd century B.C. They estimated the Earth to be about 25,000 miles in circumference. Off by about 1%.

IIRC, Job is the oldest book in the Bible, which is also actually referenced in Genesis, and was written at least 1,400 years before the Greek estimate (I think it may be even older).

The ancient Egyptians also knew the Earth was round. The Great Pyramid of Giza is a 1:43,200 scale model of the northern hemisphere, represented in a conic solid with a polygonal base.

Christopher Columbus knew the Earth was round (like most sailors always have throughout history) because you always see the mast before the hull when a ship is approaching from the horizon.

 This turned into a very long-winded way of saying I don’t know where or how in the Dark Ages that silly flat Earth superstition took hold with common folks, but it’s been very much known for many thousands of years.

Hebrews 1:1 "In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He reflects the glory of God and bears the very stamp of his nature, upholding the universe by his word of power. "

I find it comforting to know that God upholds the universe by his ‘word of power.’ The same word that spoke the universe into existence, also sustains it.

In times past, God spoke directly to His people through the heads of families, the Patriarchs — Abraham, Isaac etc…and through the prophets.

It would be reasonable to think that God educated them about the world. What God told them would have naturally been handed down to their generations. People have a tendency to add their own ideas as they pass them along, so it is understandable to find different answers to the questions.
