What… the owners of the company? They weren’t the Bureaucrats. They were the owners.
It was Reardon who had a problem with the Bureaucrats.
Heck… Ayn Rand wrote some murder porn in the middle of the book justifying why a bunch of people dying in a train crash because some were bureaucrats.

But let us detract from the failure of Elon Musk = John Galt by claiming I didn’t read Atlas Shrugged.

You haven’t read it, have you?

I did.
I understand it enough to realize that making Elon Musk out to be John Galt is incredibly stupid.
So… did you read it?

What is a senseless phrase that has nothing to do with Ayn Rand?

I did.
I don’t think so.
Ok, it’s stupid. Go find you a smart thread.
Jezcoe:
So… did you read it?
Twice.

Good God… how could you get through that dreck twice.
Read Anthem… it is much much shorter… a better sci fi story and says the exact same thing.

Atlas Shrugged is not “sci fi” at all.
But you have a nice day.

Twice.
Part of the plot is a free energy machine that generates a cloaking field to hide a magic valley.
Dude… that ■■■■ is sci fi.
It’s fine to read sci-fi… not all of it sucks.
A good critique of Objectivism is Nancy Kress’s “The Beggar’s in Spain” which applies that John Galt Philosophy to people who are genetically engineered as superior to normal humans.
It is way more thoughtful than “A is A”

It could have just as easily been an electric car. Starship Troopers was about bugs.
Literature is lost in this country.

The thing that bothered me most about John Galt is that the character invented something that would literally change the world.
Free Energy would move society towards a post scarcity world where humans could flourish.
But instead of being Jonas Salk and making the world a better place he ran away to sci fi valley.

But it wasn’t. it was a free energy engine.
Placing things into genre has nothing to do with literature being lost… it is simply understanding that things like genres exist.
To say something is sci fi doesn’t make a value judgement of it’s worth, some of the best books that have ever been written are sci fi.
