Kind of weird. I was under the impression that an assault rifle is a rifle that fires an intermediate cartridge, using a detachable box magazine. With semi automatic for aimed fire and automatic fire for suppression.

an assault firearm is prohibited if it is a semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and it has at least 2 of the following characteristics:
1.A folding or telescoping stock;
2.A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
3.A bayonet lug;
4.A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor;
5.A grenade launcher.
pretty easy to ID.

I’m not an expert but I’m also not an idiot.
None of that increases lethality except for mounting a grenade launcher. Which nobody, except for very rich eccentric people with the right certifications, has ever done. It’s appearance.
