The escalating gun crisis sweeping Chicago continued to plague the nation’s third largest city this Labor Day holiday weekend, with police statistics confirming at least six people were murdered in gang-related activity.

“In all, more than 1,000 people have been shot since Memorial Day, the Chicago Tribune reported, and while total shootings are down slightly from the same period in 2017, many Chicagoans have said the deadly gun violence remains a major problem that the city desperately needs to fix,” writes Fox News.

One of the victims includes a 25-year-old doctoral student who was shot and killed while waiting at a city bus station.

Police say the man was caught in the crossfire between two rival gang members.
