The Special Counsel would be over by now too had not basically everyone in Trump’s campaign lie about any contacts with Russia. In fact, it probably never would have happened if Trump could have kept his big dumb mouth shut.
Calling for evidence of collusion is a sucker punch. Since “collusion” is not a concept in the US criminal code there never will be evidence of collusion. Point to President Trump.
However, the evidence for a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government is near to overwhelming.
To give just one example, when Donald Trump Jr. was invited to meet with Russian representatives to get dirt on Hillary Clinton (the Trump Tower meeting) and he responded “I love it,” that, on the face of it, appears to be entering into a criminal conspiracy.
A law-abiding citizen would have reported this overture to the FBI. Instead, there is further evidence of criminal intent on Trump Jr.’s part. He denied the meeting ever took place, until he could no longer get away with that. Then he said the meeting was about adoption, until he had to abandon that lie as well. Now he denies the meeting went anywhere. Since he lied twice, I’m dubious about version three. After all, Mueller’s indictment Russian intelligence shows they ramped up their efforts to steal Democratic Party emails immediately after the Trump Tower meeting.
You may point out that this does not implicate Trump Sr. directly – only as a beneficiary of the conspiracy. One unresolved point is worth attending to. Trump Jr. provided cell phone records to the House Intelligence Committee. He made a call as the Trump Tower meeting broke up but the recipient phone number for the call was blacked. Democratic members asked to subpoena the record but the Republicans refused. Adam Schiff now intends to subpoena that record. Maybe Trump Jr. was calling for a restaurant reservation at Jean-Georges but I have to wonder whether he was calling to update Daddy. Speculation, of course, but if he had called a restaurant why wouldn’t the release the information.
Does anyone find it hilarious that Trump supporters NOW want Mueller to find collusion? Could it be because the actual crimes (collusion isn’t a crime) are much worse?
Can you cite one assertion in the Steele dossier that has been disproven – other than the one instance where a Rosnoft executive was incorrectly identified.
Not some overall “phony” charge – let’s talk contents. There’s stuff for which there is no evidence pro or con (mostly the salacious content) but what has been disproven in the rest of it?
And speaking of phony – the dossier was initialed by a Republican before Hillary’s campaign picked it up. So if you want to speak truth – acknowledge that.
