Finally, too late, a Judge does the right thing in the Cosby case

A defendant in criminal jeopardy should absolutely have the right to assert the Fifth Amendment in all associated civil cases and should be able to assert that right until ALL potential criminal trials have been held and any appeals of right have been completed, which is usually about a year after the completion of the trials themselves.

Had that been the case earlier, Cosby’s conviction might have survived.

Ideally, all civil cases related to a criminal case should be held in abeyance until the completion of criminal proceedings.

While inconvenient for the civil plaintiffs, ultimately a criminal defendants due process rights must prevail.
