Federal judge rules that selective prosecution based on political affiliation is unconstitutional

A federal judge on Feb. 21 found that the “selective prosecution” of far-right groups without charging their far-left counterparts for the same acts is “constitutionally impermissible.”

U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney therefore dismissed charges against two men from the “white nationalist” Rise Above Movement (RAM) who violently clashed with members of the far-left group Antifa at three Southern California pro-Trump events in 2017.

This ruling is long overdo in my opinion, and it could have far-reaching implications. The bill of rights is meaningless if groups like ANTIFA are a free to engage in violent attacks on its political opponents with the tacit support of prosecutors.

Are we seeing the being of the end of the weaponization of the federal justice system?

The Circuit already overruled Judge Carney. Rundo has been re-arrested.

An encouraging ruling.

Another example of selective prosecution is Trump of course while the corrupt Biden family gets a wink and a nod.

Do you have a link? Or is this just wishful thinking?

Fascist repression can continue as usual. Yay!

It may take months or years before this reaches the Supreme Court.

The right of state-supported thugs to attack with impunity will continue for now.

I really do appreciate you guys coming out fully in favor of violent white nationalists.

It really helps draw the lines.

Rundo trained in Ukraine with Azov, which is trained and funded by the US and its NATO allies.

Antifa has the tacit support of the FBI and DOJ in the US.

Washington is fine with supporting violent extremists of the far right or the far left when they help the interests of Washington.

Since when?

Seriously… the idea that violent White Nationalists can’t be prosecuted because of the perception that those on the Left are not is just silly.

selective prosecution? why he’s not even a citizen- you can’t select him…

wait…

Antifa attacked the federal courthouse in Portland for months in 2020.

Where were the predawn FBI SWAT team raids?

Where were the felony charges for everyone who participated in the violent insurrection?

18 people were arrested and charged for that.

She has been shown that before. Now she will go on about them driving up in vans and arresting people.

Who are you talking about?

It will never get to the Supreme Court.

There are occasionally arrests on minor charges, which are then quietly dropped before trial. Felony convictions are extremely rare and prison time is even rarer.

Here is an example of the deal given one of the Antifa arsonists in Portland:

Alma Yesenia Raven-Guido pleaded guilty on March 23 to felony second-degree arson, two charges of felony rioting, felony first-degree criminal mischief, and three charges of second-degree disorderly conduct. She was given a sweetheart deal where she received no prison time and all but the arson charge would be deferred upon paying $50,000 in restitution.

Yeah… she pled guilty. People usually get lowered sentences when they do that… especially if they are first time offenders.

I don’t get this need to pretend that Right wing extremists are being treated unfairly in this country. It is a very weird turn in the identity politics game.

As usual, (D)omestic Terrorism is (D)ifferent. Just look at those (D)ogs bark.
