FDA to rule on pulling Benadryl and Sudafed from pharmacy shelves (the fake crap, not the real stuff)

I could have told them this 20 ■■■■■■■ years ago.

Phenylephrine is ■■■■■■■ worthless.

Get yourself something that actually has pseudoephedrine in it. Otherwise your just wasting your money.

Good to know. Spicy broth and hot baths with bath oils work really well too. Not a huge fan of vicks rub, it’s really greasy. Feels damn good on the sinuses though.

Benadryl? Why?

Just the version of Benadryl with phenylephrine, due to the worthlessness of that ingredient.

Interesting footnote The FDA was alerted to this 16 years ago that the the “non drowsy” version of many popular medicines doesn’t work.

I use Flonase nasal spray when needed. Works very well.

Years ago, when I was in pharma sales, we used to read a lot of studies. One that was very interesting was on Benadryl, I believe published by JAMA. They had a control group taking a placebo (of course) and those who were given Benadryl.

They studied both on repetitive and more complex tasks. The placebo group functioned at a significantly higher rate than those who had taken Benadryl two days prior.

I’d extrapolate that this is very significant, especially for school age children, who are routinely given Benadryl for allergies instead of, say Claritin, etc.

I could have told them this when this junk came out. I always get the version behind the counter (que the meth lab jokes) because the other one never worked for me.

BTW, forcing real Sudafed behind the counter led to the rise of a more potent, more available and easier to make Meth.

So how about we stop the ■■■■■■■ game and put regular Sudafed (and its generic equivalent products) back on the regular shelves.
