I’m not one that want to commit American men and women to war, I think most of you all know that.
If you target Americans and kill us…I want our military to unleash hell and kill you.

That’s easy enough to beat with electronic warfare.
Why send troops to Mexico when you can just send a couple of Space Force personnel to the border to swat those things away?
It shows the cartel is being impacted and is looking to fight back. Big mistake in my opinion. While Mexico might cower in their presence, US troops won’t.

I don’t understand this. How are the cartels running Mexico? A joint effort between the US and Mexico can’t eliminate them? Why are they still allowed to run rampant in Mexico?

We discussed the political environment and the fact that the Mexican Government didn’t actual control large swaths of the country back in the mid 80s at my original CI course. The cartels used a combination of corruption and violence to exert de facto control over their territories. The situation is much worse now, with that country effectively partitioned between the cartels, who are engaged in constant open warfare with each other. Mexico is effectively a failed state. Because of this, the cartel leaders are acting like any fiefdom ruler, especially an expansionist minded warlord, acts when challenged.

They send a drone across our border we send a bomber. They fire a rifle across our border we fire a tank. I have a strong feeling that they are going to have to learn the hard way. I also think they are counting on the idiot Libs over here to shed tears for them and keep Trump from unleashing that hell. BIG MISTAKE ON THEIR PART!

Of course. This came to mind as soon as I heard that the cartels had been designated as terrorist orgs.
Its going to be interesting to see how this pans out.
The cartels don’t have depth, not compared to a Superpower. You deal with them by cutting off the top 4 layers of their leadership. Then target any low level member that tries to rise to take their place. They will fall into disarray and internal fighting to try to assume the position of warlord.

I think invading another country is bad.
Any military action has the chance to create unintended or unforeseen consequences.
Its obviously not an apples to apples comparison but we were told the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan would be relatively easy and we were stuck there for nearly 20 years!
I am not against military action just think we need to be aware that it might not be all sunshine and roses.
All this considered, why doesn’t the US and Mexico abolish them?

Terrorist/criminal organizations are rarely truly abolished. But they can be degraded to the point of being generally irrelevant. As for the US taking action to degrade them, the situation has to cause a significant enough consequence on our nation to justify the action. There seems to be significant agreement among the population that the problem requires action. As for Mexico itself, it is a failed state and lacks the current political and societal will to fix the problem.
