A new story by David Corn, co-author of the excellent book “Russian Roulette” on the Trump-Russian connections, that the arrest of Maria Butina may have had a huge effect on the succession plans of top-level executives at the NRA.
According to Corn, Peter Brownell, according to the NRA’s strict hierarchy, should have stayed as NRA president for another year. But Brownell suddenly left the office, saying he wanted to spend more time with family. Oliver North was suddenly given the job, to his shock. He told NRATV, “I didn’t expect this to be happening…This was very sudden.”
According to Corn, the move came two weeks after the arrest of Maria Butina, which caused the FBI to look into the Butina-NRA connection. Brownell had taken a trip to Moscow and met with Butina and others.
Corn writes the Butina case is now an embarrassment to the NRA. And Brownell was in the middle of it.
Corn is peddling BS for a profit and motherjones is giving him a voice for the same reason.
The Brownell’s run the largest company in the world providing firearms parts, accessories, firearms, gunsmithing tools etc and Pete has a young family. There’s only so many things any man can divide his time between.
