Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE)

Musk company makes money on EVs using government subsidies

EVs suck, climate change is a hoax, and Solyandra failed

Cut Musks’s subsidies?

If this was anybody else the posts would be stellar alas it’s musk. So we get to ignore the things we usually complain about

Well you make things up . . .
Or you can look them up.

Musk though lobbied for and acceted subisidies in the distant past has said more than once he would now like to see them eliminated.

From the article:

After meeting with government officials, though, he did respond. He reiterated that the government should “get rid of all credits.” Musk has taken on a new role as head of DOGE, an internet meme-turned-advisory body in the incoming Trump administration that will propose ways to reduce annual federal spending and streamline regulations for autonomous vehicles.

If you can’t debate the topic (the goverment is too big and needs to be downsized) it is common to change the subject and launch attacks against some of the opposing side’s spokes people.

What is unusual is that you made up your imaginary accusations and you keep repeating them as if repeating them makes them true or scores points or something.

Here is Musk way bakc in 2021 calling not for a cut to EV subsidies, but for their elimination.

Maybe it was today’s news that the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating Tesla, but Elon Musk was in no mood on Monday to praise the federal government and its latest infrastructure spending plan.

The Tesla CEO expressed his opposition to the Biden administration’s inclusion of $7.5 billion for new electric vehicle charging stations in its recently passed, $1 trillion infrastructure bill. Going a step further, Musk said that “no one at Tesla” was thinking about the bill’s potential impact on the electric automaker’s business, and instead suggested that the government’s overall spending has gone too far.

Let’s be honest, it wasn’t out of the goodness of his heart. Tesla is the only major EV manufacturer who has actually has economy of scale with their designs. Losing the EV tax rebate subsidy wouldn’t hurt his business since they are price competitive with ICE vehicles on the end retail and are still pulling good profit margins on their cars.

It would serve to make competing EV vehicles way less attractive than his own, however. No one else enjoys that economy of scale with EVs. Except for maybe some of the Chinese manufacturers but they aren’t allowed to be sold here either.

Well, at least your argument is possibly true.

But . . .
Does that mean there is no waste in government?
Does it mean Musk needs to be kept 10 miles away form any attempt to downsize govenrment?

Or does it mean “I can’t argue against this so I’ll smear some dirt on Elon Musk instead?”

Oh there is a ton of waste in government I think DOGE is a good thing, even if I find the acronym to be stupid.

I’m hoping they tackle my passion, which the GBSD program the US Air Force saw fit to foist on the tax payers for 1.5 trillion dollars in an era where ground launched ICBMs are obsolete.

According to MS Copilot (which is sometimes correct) here is a list of carbon footprints for a gallon of common liquids:

  • Gasoline: Approximately 8,887 grams (about 20 pounds) of CO2
  • Beer: Approximately 3.2 kilograms (about 7 pounds) of CO2
  • Soda: Approximately 3.2 kilograms (about 7 pounds) of CO2
  • Milk: Approximately 8 kilograms (about 17.6 pounds) of CO2

Note on average there is a 26-plus cents per gallon tax on gasoline but no equivalent tax on the others. If we need to reduce carbon emission we can and should

  • withdraw from the Kyoto protocol etc…
  • fire every first, last and middle gov’t employee tasked with reducing C02 emissions
  • do away with all subsidies and
  • put a per pound C02 tax on all the above sufficient to reduce our carbon emissions to we want them.

Of course he would like them to be eliminated because they would be given to his competitors. It’s called pulling up a ladder. The things you will defend

Yes exactly

Musk wants to defund the ACLU. Not sure how because the government does not fund the ACLU.

https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1864310957973098571?s=46

Just waiting for the usual crew to say he was talking about individuals not donating :grinning:

Who else could he be talking about?

To some degree they do fund them.

So, where does the ACLU get its money? The organization’s top sources of funding include:

• Individual Donors: $64.6 million (46% of total contributions and grants)

• Foundation Grants: $34.4 million (25% of total contributions and grants)

• Corporate Donations: $14.1 million (10% of total contributions and grants)

• Government Grants: $10.3 million (7% of total contributions and grants)

• Other Sources: $16.9 million (12% of total contributions and grants)

How is the Legal Services Corporation a government grant? According to their website they are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation

I could not find any information on the BJA site that states they provided grants to the ACLU. But never knew the BJA existed until I read your link :grinning:.

The ACLU state on their site “The ACLU is non-partisan and non-profit. We do not receive any government funding. Our work is supported by member dues as well as contributions and grants from private foundations and individuals.”

https://www.aclu.org/about/about-membership/financial-info

The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is a publicly funded, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established by the United States Congress. It seeks to ensure equal access to justice under the law for all Americans by providing funding for civil legal aid to those who otherwise would be unable to afford it. The LSC was created in 1974 with bipartisan congressional sponsorship and the support of the Nixon administration, and LSC is funded through the congressional appropriations process.

I see you left the Bureau of Justice Assistance out of your reply. I see why.

I was thinking… when DOGE closes the Bureau of Urban Management will they throw the BUMs out?

For those who complain about dem spending.

You lost that privilege.

We don’t need a $Trillion military. Especially not one that loses.

Cut it Musk!

Absolutely true. Cuts MUST come from GOP pork as well.

The question for cutting should never be “Whose bauble is this?” It should only ask if the framulator widget returns more value than it costs.
