Residents throughout the Big Apple continued to vote with their feet in recent months, with new data showing New York City’s population dropping for the first time in over a decade.

“The nation’s largest city is losing population for the first time in more than a decade, new federal estimates show,” reports the Wall Street Journal.

“International migration into New York City’s five boroughs tapered off, as more residents left, shrinking the city’s population in 2017 and 2018, according to U.S. Census Bureau numbers released Thursday,” adds the study.

The study comes as residents cope with rising crime, crumbling infrastructure, and lagging public schools despite massive taxes and rising housing costs across the nation’s largest city.
