I think it’s bad to tell 18 year-old soldiers they know how to run a gun after a couple of days of “training” on a static range during which they are taught incorrectly, by the numbers, then thrown into a live fire two-way range and told to “figure it out.”

Yep. Every time the contingent at the local Army Post, Ft. Wainwrigtht returns from deployment to the ME, the public shooting range is full of soldiers trying to regain their proficiency that they lost while they were deployed. They tell us (because we have asked) that over there, they never get the chance to shoot their weapons unless fired upon.
