There is zero requirement that persecution must come from the government in order to have a valid asylum claim. Right?
These same definitions applied under Bush and Trump.

persecution or fear that they will suffer persecution due to:
Race
Religion
Nationality
Membership in a particular social group
Political opinionNone of these large groups of people are being targeted for persecution number one, and definitely not for the reasons listed. Heck even Mayorkas even admitted as such! Look at ALL the reasons that have been discussed in this thread and none fit the legal requirements!
How can you possibly know that? None
Iām not familiar with the statement from Mayorkas⦠link?
I already posted it, hereās what he said on why people are coming to the border:
authoritarian regimes. We have more extreme weather events that are driving people from their homes. We have poverty.ā
Those are not legally valid asylum conditions.

Because the purpose of asylum was not intended to apply to virtually EVERYONE in a particular country. To have a virtual incessant flow of people from countries all over the world is NOT what asylum is supposed to be about.

That maybe why they are coming to the border⦠but did he say those are valid asylum claims?

Your problem is with asylum law⦠which has been the same for the last 20+ years, under multiple administrations.
Iām ok with redefining the asylum laws. Why have republicans done a single thing to do that?

They are using asylum as a ruse to flood the country with the worldās poverty. Itās not exactly rocket science to understand the motivation of politicians.
Iām ok with redefining the asylum laws. Why hav
Cheap labor?
Why havenāt the dems?

Dems generally donāt mind the current asylum law?
Despite the crisis?
Despite the crisis?
I donāt think the current crisis has anything to do with the asylum law since this law has been the same for at least the last 20 years.
The fact that the US has asylum laws is not something new.
You canāt be serious.
Dems generally donāt mind the current asylum law?
As long as they stay in Texasā¦
You canāt be serious.
Is the current asylum law/process different than it was under Obama and Trump?

No. The application of it is.

What is Biden doing differently, in the application of asylum, than Obama?

Inviting
Pulling enforcement off to process
Denying
Flying them around in the middle of the night
I donāt recall Obama releasing them with a court date in 10 years.
Inviting
President Joe Biden discouraged would-be migrants from coming to the United States as his administration scrambles to respond to a surge of unaccompanied migrant children coming into the US.
āI can say quite clearly: Donāt come,ā Biden told ABC in an interview aired on Tuesday.ā
Pulling enforcement off to process
Temporary solution. Didnāt he ask for more money from Congress?
Denying
Huh?
Flying them around in the middle of the night
As is Desaintis and Abbott. And Obama. And Trump.
That was after the invitation. Too late.
Huh?
Denying there is a crisis. Denying the border is open.
