Cosmic Impacts and the Rise and Fall of Civilization

Not a single piece of metal, silicon, or wood in your home will be around in 10,000 years. All of it will be dust.

It’s no surprise that we’re not finding 10,000 year old machines, only stone ruins.

Yes but, just like we have taken all the easy oil we have also taken most of the easy access metals to make them, that would be the enduring trace, not the items themselves. Disintegrated machines don’t turn into iron veins.

That’s assuming the tech of the day was the same as it is now.

Tesla took electricity from the earth and sky. We take it from combusting oil. There are many ways to skin a cat, or light up a home.

Which is why I was saying that if they were advanced and numerous it would have to be a different sort of advanced, spiritual, biological combo maybe. Perhaps they grew their machines instead of smelting them.

Depend on what the important criteria were on whatever plane of existence you were on when you made such a choice.

Why labor under the assumption that the metrics by which you might judge life here are the same on the plane where you make the choice?

90% of all people live within 100 miles of a coastline.

Same may have been true 12,000 years ago, before all the coastlines were swallowed by the corrosive seas, following a cosmic impact with Comet Encke.

We still get meteor showers from it, twice a year, because it once intersected with our orbital path. When that happens, collision is a mathematical certainty.

What about planet nine? When do you think that comes back around? Any guesses? I would assume that would cause of lot of disturbance.

The scientific hunt for Planet Nine is still underway. It would not only explain the orbital paths of known Kuiper Belt objects, but it would also be the missing “Super Earth” in our solar system. Super Earths are very common exoplanets. Our solar system is not “normal” compared to most others.

Pretty solid evidence the mass is out there, super earth is the most likely but could be something else.

It could also be an Ice Giant, like Neptune and Uranus. I don’t think it is though.

In fairness, every “Super Earth” we’ve detected so far could simply be Ice Giants, without the Ice. Their atmospheres could be as dense as water.

Hoping for a mini black hole myself.

12,000 years ago, it was a flood. The next one is predicted to be by fire. Those magnetic poles are pretty unstable right now. :man_shrugging:

And a big solar flare cycle coming, peaking in 2025.

Oh and NASA still using outdated cycles so showing a much smaller than actual predicted peak.

The two may very well be connected. It will be fiery. Tens of thousands of years worth of human memory shows these catastrophes to be cyclic.

Not a bad way to go, as long as it’s big enough it will be over quickly. At least if you are sun side. Not afraid of being dead, not sure I will enjoy the transition

There will be survivors, as always. Within a couple of generations, they will have forgotten how to read, how to write, how to program, etc… Another restart.

The Ego hates not being in control. Once it shuts up, there’s nothing but pure un-involvement and bliss, at least until that gets boring.

I haven’t done acid in decades, since the time I mistook a four way for a single and had trouble speaking for a few months after, total out of body experience on that one.

It’s been about 2 years for me. Never had an outer body experience though. Everything was within. That clinical study with 5-MeO-DMT though… that was the second time in my life where my soul was rocket launched into another reality. First time was when a grenade punched me in the face. lol

Talk to anything there?
