Jezcoe: Wow, I stand corrected- back in 1918-1919. Scientists are still unsure of initial H1N1 source. News of the sickness first made headlines in Madrid in late May 1918, and coverage only increased after Spanish King Alfonso XIII came down with a nasty case a week later. The Spanish, meanwhile, believed the virus had spread to them from France, so they took to calling it the âFrench Fluâ.
Medical experts of today agree that coronavirus most certainly originated in China. Thus, Trump is not doing anything out of the ordinary in citing how this particular virus can be tabbed by country of origin.
How does the country of origin change the response?
I know⌠I know⌠there is this thing where there is a wink and a nod where one says⌠Hey it is technically right that the Virus originated in Wuhan⌠but I have my doubts that the same people would be calling it the âNebraska Fluâ or the âTexas Fluâ if it had originated there.
There is a need to blame this on an âotherâ as to deflect away from the poor response by the administration⌠in my opinion of course.
I agree with everything you are saying, but I think any energy put into addressing the Trump Administrationâs response should focus on tangible things that address the crisis â if the Administration had greater belief in science and economics â they would put less time into names. We need to focus on scientific and economic solutions; and leave solving the problem with marketing to those who haven no skills except in marketing.
