Congratulations to Senator McConnell on becoming the longest serving Republican Leader in Senate history

Senator McConnell just passed Senator Dole to become the longest serving Republican Leader in Senate history.

McConnell became Republican Leader on January 3, 2007 and as of June 12, has served 11 years, 5 months and 10 days, compared to Dole’s 11, 5 and 9.

He still has a ways to go to equal Mike Mansfield’s record of 16 years as Democratic Leader. Mansfield also holds the record for service as Majority Leader, as all his 16 years as Leader were spent in the majority.

Great reason to step down. Going out on top ain’t bad.
