Common Figure of Speech/Colloquial Language?

Guvnah,
re: “Not only that, but anything anyone has had to say has been dismissed.”

Because the comments have been off topic.

re: “Not sure what the aim of this thread was expected to be.”

See the OP.

It falls along the childish mentality of I’m right, you’re wrong…na, na, na, na, naaaaaaa, na. :sunglasses: :tumbler_glass:

Is someone writing a book?

Oops! Off topic.

Jesus always begins his ptediction of passion events ending in “on the third day” or “after three days” or within three days" at his arrest. Arguably, the third day is the third day from his arrest, rather than from his death.

The phrase" three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (greek gE)" could be translated as “three days and three nights in the heart of the land (greek gE)”. A google search of “the heart of South Korea” throws up https://traveltradejournal.com/experience-seoul-the-beating-heart-of-south-korea/#:~:text=The%20economic%2C%20cultural%20and%20political,modern%20vibrant%20cities%20in%20Asia.

The heart of israel is arguably the temple mount, on which Jesus was three days and three nights from his arrest on the opposite hill across the Kidron to his resurrection.

What about this passage?

18 The Jews then said to him, “What sign have you to show us for doing this?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he spoke of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken. John 2

“In three days” looks like 3 days from His death — from when His body was destroyed.

Correct. This one starts from his death. We need to keep on mind that 1st century Jews calculated quantities, including time, by what is called inclusive teckoning. Where a part of a day, no mstter how small a part, was reckoned as one day.
Jesus said, " Tell that fox, I am casting out demons today and tomorrow and the third day I am perfected. Here the part day yet remaining is today - one day. The full day tomorrow is one day, and the part day following is ttje third day

There was part of a jewish day after Jesus’ death (mid afternoon to evening) plus a full jewish day (Friday evening to Saturday evening) plus part of a jewish day ( Saturday evening to daybreak). Three jewish days ny inclusive reckoning.
Jesus’ resurrection occurred "withon three jewish days, which would have ended on the evening of Sunday.

But the other predictions begin with Jesus" betrayal and end with his resurrection. This is also three dsys by inclusive reckonkng, starting after midnight on Friday rather than on the afternoon of Friday.

“The belly of the beast” is the nerve centre of an enemy regime.
For Jesus that was the temple mount. Using inclusive reckonning, Jesus was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale (an unclean beast). He was arrested on the opposite hill and taken to the temple mount on Friday night and ascended to his Father to be glorified from the temple mount after talking with Mary Magdalene on Sunday morning.

Since it’s again been a while maybe someone new visiting this topic may know of examples.

There are none.
So what is your personal conclusion from that fact?

Our Lord was in the nerve centre of the Judaean regime i.e. in the heart of the land of Judaea which was on the temple mount, for three nights and three days: arrested and taken to the temple mount at around midnight on Friday 14 Nisan, crucified during daylight on Friday 14 Nisan, in the grave during the night of Friday 15 Nisan, Saturday daylight 15 Nisan and the night of Saturday 16 Nisan, and ascended to his Father to present bimself as the first fruit on the feast of firstfruits after His appearance to Mary Magdalene after dawn on Sunday 16 Nisan. Three nights and three days, by Jewish inclusive reckoning, in the heart of the land/country (hebrew gE).

And remember, the someone new needs to be someone who thinks the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with the resurrection taking place on the 1st day of the week, and who thinks that the “heart of the earth” is referring to the tomb and who tries to explain the lack of a 3rd night by saying that the Messiah was using common figure of speech/colloquial language.

Paul_Thomson,
re: “There are none. So what is your personal conclusion from that fact?”

That so far no one who tries to explain the missing night by saying that the Messiah was using common figure of speech/colloquial language has visited this topic. Or if they have, that they don’t have the examples to support the idea that it was common usage.

The TRUTH…doesn’t change and here you are, once again.

Y’all come back now…ya hear? :sunglasses: :tumbler_glass:

re: “Y’all come back now…ya hear?”

OK, perhaps someone new looking in may know of examples.

I hope the number “seeking a sign” such as yourself, has not increased. You’re the only example I see and hope that one day you too will be baptized by The Holy Spirit.

31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be [a]delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”

He was killed on Friday and rose Sunday morning. Math is hard for some.

He was handed over to men by Judas around midnight on Thursday-Friday. That’s when the three days, and the three days and three nights, began.
