I guess have to wonder, did her teachers teach her about Jim Crow and slavery corporations are polluting and white people stole land from the indians?? Hmm maybe, if they thought that was important then she learned that. Reading and writing? Not so much.

I don’t think she got into UConn and then started faking it. From experience: More likely she reads on a 2nd-3rd grade level and the coping mechanisms she used didn’t cut it the first time she was placed in a different setting.
The future of US education lib style! The important things for libism are they sufficiently woke, do they hate white people in general and conservatives in particular, do they understand all things LGBTQ+, and most importantly do all the boys know that can become a woman anytime they want and do all the girls know that they can become a man anytime that they want.
This isn’t something new. A boy I graduated High School with was a functional illiterate our senior year. I can still see and hear him trying to read a paragraph from the US Government text book out loud. He couldn’t complete even 1 sentence out loud without the teacher feeding him the larger words.
She’s a special-ed student. So her experience is probably not representative of the general student population.
Her case manager is specifically named in the suit.
One of the arguments in favor of the Dept of Education is that it makes sure special-needs students get an education.
Pushing a student through for the sake of graduation statistics doesn’t do them any good.

“It does give educators in Hartford pause to reflect on the sometimes conflicting goals to increase graduation rates while also maintaining high expectations consistent with what a high school diploma should mean.”
I remember when I was in high school. A student could not fail a year twice. Even if you got two years of freshman classes and failed them all, you would be advanced to the sophomore class. Students jokingly called it the eight-year plan. Of course, most kids who failed 4 straight years were 18 and could legally drop out at that point, and did.
Where were her parents during her time in school? They are the ones with the final responsibility for unitedly and lovingly guiding their child into adulthood along the path of education. If the path you’re on isn’t working along the way, fix it. That’s how life works…period.

Yes really bad parenting explains a lot of things.
But,
Her parents did not promote her out of the 5th grade, schools did.
Her parents did not promote her out of the 12th grade, schools did.
Her parents did not declare her “an honor student” schools did.
etc…
None of this was done by the schools “to save money.”
None of this is a funding issue.
Agreed. They didn’t promote her but they didn’t stop the train derailment by the schools doing so and THAT is my point. Are they not aware that their child is not progressing? Are they not aware there are educational dysfunctions with their child that need serious and constant attention? This article does not provide the inside details to provide an accurate synopsis of the truth but IMHO…the parents hold the final responsibility for successfully guiding their child into adulthood.
That’s kind of the point.
