CNBC: Inflation rate eased to 2.8% in February, less than expected

  • The consumer price index for both all-items and core increased 0.2% in February, slightly below expectations.

  • On an annual basis, headline inflation was at 2.8%, while core was at 3.1%. Both also were 0.1 percentage point below the Wall Street consensus and the previous month’s levels.

  • The report provided some relief as consumers and businesses worry about the looming impact tariffs might have on inflation

Food and energy indexes both increased 0.2%. Used vehicle prices jumped 0.9% and apparel rose 0.6%. Within food, egg prices soared another 10.4%, taking the 12-month increase to 58.8% and pushing a broader measure that also includes meat, poultry and fish up 7.7% on the year. Beef prices also climbed 2.4% in February.

Motor vehicle insurance posted a 0.3% increase on the month and was up 11.1% annually. However, airline fares slipped 4% in February and were down 0.7% from a year ago.

Inflation-adjusted average hourly earnings increased 0.1% for the month and were up 1.2% from a year ago, the BLS said in a separate release. . . .

The money supply is still ultra-high.

Eventually it will go somewhere (stocks, consumer items, whatever) and that increased demand will create price increases wherever it goes.

IOW it ain’t over yet.

Woot Woot!

You mean Bidens policies drove inflation? You don’t say?

I’m picking up 12 more chickens tomorrow. You’re all welcome for my efforts in driving down demand, no need to thank me. :sunglasses:

Who wants to bother raising them? You can still pick up 2 year old layers for 5-10 bucks each (about the price of a carton of eggs  ).

You can’t fix something broken over night if it took years to brake.
Plus it takes time for the change in trajectory to show the results.
But I see gas prices drop down 1 dollar and Trump didn’t even start drilling.

BTW…I keept hearing Biden brag for years about medication prices that he ‘reduced’ for us …
My meds went up and up and up for years …even last month and yesterday again.

At least Trump invoked a law that was on the books.
Biden and Obama created laws they needed with a pan and a phone.
And put in place activist judges like noone before.
And ignored SCOTUS decision.

Pelosi pushed through a bill that …" you have to sign in/pass before you see what’s in it ". A thousands pages bill given to members to read over night.

Obama lied that you can …" if you like your doctor you can KEEP your doctor…".
Just ONE of thousands of lies.

Trump, so far, obeyed ALL court decisions and created NO laws. Except about a beautiful girl killed by an illegal hosted here by Biden.

 :+1:
The man is a poster child for law 'n order and transparency.
What a joy. !

Yep.
Just look at Medicaid.
That place needs to be axed. What an abuse.

They’re free for the wrong people.
Medicaid is a waste and abuse galafest.
Don’t forget that Obama and Biden were fixing their UE problem by throwing able-body folks on Disability and Medicaid.
Now they get more free stuff than SS rets who put money into it all their working life. THEY, SS rets, don’t get free anything.

Here’s some good news:

What do you think?

Some people will tell you “deflation is always and everywhere a bad thing.”

If they are right, then we should hope that this decrease in egg prices is at least offset by some other price increase in some other good or service.

Maybe gas? How about health insurances? should we wish of a price increase in health insurance to offset the decline in egg prices?

Me?
I have never agreed with those people.
I believe that prices coming down is sometimes a good thing.
In fact I believe that over time, as it adopts new technology the free marker quite naturally brings prices down.
