And this is why we need an independent investigation of the prior administration and the people they left in those agencies, to get all the details and attach the facts to the law. There is enough smoke to start an investigation here, for sure.
Ask Flynn if lying can get you indicted. Ask Libby.

Then lets get that special counsel starting in on it now and see who is right.

You’ve yet to show there’s any smoke. Once you find actual smoke, then maybe you’ll get an investigation.

Flynn and Libby lied to the FBI and a special prosecutor. Not Congress. People are very rarely prosecuted for lying to Congress. People are prosecuted for lying to actual investigators all the time. Be sure you keep this stuff straight because it can be confusing.

That’s not the purpose of a special prosecutor.

Special “counsel” then.
Remember Mueller was set up to find “Collusion”, which isn’t a crime.

And “no smoke”? Then maybe we can hire someone to write a phony “dossier”.

The investigation was initially a counter-intelligence investigation against a foreign adversarial power, which doesn’t require a crime.

The word collision is not used in the letter appointing Mueller.

There’s no smoke, at least none that you’ve pointed out. A phony dossier would not lead to an investigation so you’ll have to try some other tactic.

lol didnt Nunes leak everything to Trump about the Intel Committee findings?

The authorizing letter includes investigating any links between anyone in the campaign and the Russian government. “Links” are not per se illegal or unethical. It depends on what the purpose and nature of any such links are.

No smoke? Leaks re an ongoing investigation are a virtual firestorm. Small diffences in facts can determine whether thay are legal or illegal, but they can be diruptive and against regulations even if legal.
You ASSUME the purpose of the investigation by the Trump haters in the Obama administration was for counter intelligence instead of for political purposes. Now, lets find out if that is true.

I have previously been advised that if you are innocent, you should welcome an investigation.

Again, it initially started as a counter intelligence investigation. Don’t forget that. That changes the nature of the investigation. Since we know Russians committed crimes in their efforts, investigating these links is fundamental to determining if there was coordination with the Trump campaign in commission of these crimes. It’s a perfectly reasonable rationale for the investigation unless you’re desperate to distort history, nit pick and otherwise ignore relevant context.

If you want a special counsel, then you’re going to need a rationale for it. You’ve only provided a vinctive partisan one, which isn’t a sufficient justification. You’ve described a type of investigation that would be best suited for an IG who I believe is already on the job.

Right. Because what could possibly go wrong with the investigators investigating and judging themselves?

“We believe that a special counsel is needed to work with the Inspector General to independently gather the facts and make prosecutorial decisions, if any are merited. The Justice Department cannot credibly investigate itself without these enhanced measures of independence,” the senators wrote."

What are you afraid of?

The investigators aren’t investigating themselves. The IG is separate and independent. The DoJ and FBI are large organizations. There are scores of investigators that had nothing to do with the Trump Campaign investigation, many of whom were newly appointed or hired by Trump himself. It’s a silly talking point that they can’t perform an investigation into the investigation.

I believe this push is part of a concerted campaign to discredit our own institutions for the express purpose of saving Trump or his associates from investigation of actual crimes. It’s basically muddying the waters.

You’ve yet to give any real reason as to why this “investigation” should take place other than curiosity.
