Are you really trying to figure this out? When I went to grade school we spent that valuable time on the three rs, in addition to learning about the founding of our country and its exceptionalism. Today, our socialist government schools’ priority is placed on teaching children to feel good regardless of shortcomings and academic deficiencies, and instead of learning how to think, our children are being told what to think, e.g., School Children being taught to sing mmm mmm mm Barack Hussein Obama:

As to our Constitution being a "living document", that life is found only in Article V, a protection demanding the people’s participation and consent when change is thought to be necessary.
