Bye Bye East Wing of the White House

 That’s funny.

I didn’t vote for Trump, but I can still see the value in this.

Think of all the money that is spent every time Trump jets off to Mar-A-Lago. The cost savings from that should easily offset the costs of this ballroom.

According to Google AI, it’s like 1 million dollars a trip.

According to this, there have been 19 trips by foreign dignitaries to Trump properties so far in 2025. That’s 19 million we can save immediately by using this ballroom instead.

Worth it now?

Yeah, I pretty much don’t have a problem with it. Despite the Marie Antoinette/Albert Speer vibe.

Ironic post is ironic.

I think the ballroom is a good idea. I am concerned the structure will dominate the actual White House though. I hope they carefully pan it so it blends in nicely with the site.

But I do t think they will.

The good news is,…

… … since the East Wing will be brand new.

… … … … The next DEM President will be able to just remodel the wide open space back into office space for staff.

WW

The pettiness and spite exhibited by the left over a ballroom.

Yike. Small, small people.

According to NBC news, maybe not.

Plans include a massive arch facing the Potomac, and he’s fired the review board that oversees this kind of stuff.

Is there something improper about the “actual” White House being dominated by the size of the ballroom?

My vote:

I think on that site, the actual house, in the center of the two wings, should be the dominate feature.

Matter of taste I suppose.

Your opinion is noted. Others have a different opinions.

It’s a residence, not a National Monument.

The house, by the way, started off with no wings. And the wings were built at different times … and the west wing was enlarged years after it was originally built. Things change. You’ll get used to it. But if you don’t, it doesn’t matter. Unless you become President, that is. Then you can knock down the ballroom and build a twin of the West Wing,

It’s not a monument but it is a National Historic Landmark.

Yes, which is not sacred. Many Presidents have altered it considerably without much fuss. … but Trump!

Note, any structure older than 50 years can be nominated for historic landmark status. I’m thinking of nominating my house next spring.
