I agree that a random battery explosion at the same time as the gunshot is extremely unlikely.
The scenario of the bullet hit the battery is more plausible, but it still leaves a question about what happened to the bullet. The hunting rifle can bring down an elk with a single shot. The bullet should have gone through the battery and into Kirk’s chest, but there is no evidence of the resulting chest wound.
The point is that explosion in or near the battery would almost certainly not be a coincidence. Instead, it implies that someone placed a small amount of high explosive into the battery and provided a means for remote detonation. The apparent hand signals could have provided the timing so that the gunshot and the explosion coincided. Here is a screen shot from the video showing the battery:
This scenario implies that the gunshot was just a diversion. The sound of the gunshot could have come from a blank, or else the bullet flew high above the buildings and may never be recovered.
If this scenario sounds far-fetched, consider the exploding pager story from a year ago. The Israeli government is hardly the only entity with the technology.

Occam’s razor. The simplest answer is probably the correct one. He was shot by a single round of 30-06 fired from atop a building 142 yards away and the bullet somehow deflected downward in his neck and buried itself under the skin. Without a detailed coroner’s report to say otherwise, everything else is pure speculation.
