Breaking: More leftwing violence, TESLAS set ablaze in Las Vegas. (Is it terrorism yet?)

Seems to be a lot of this.
At what point is targeting property and institutions terrorism?

Planes? Universities? Shops and Businesses? Gov’t buildings? Cars?

When does violence against property become terrorism?

If they’re committing acts of violence for political purposes, it’s there.

Its a bit more nuanced than that. grok summarizes it better and faster than I can.

There is no call for political change accompanied with these attacks.

Just charge those responsible with criminal law.

As a nation we get into dicey territory when we start to label crimes as terrorism. It sets a precedent that then allows more liberties to be taken with people who commit crimes or even start to express unpopular opinions.

Obviously setting fire to something, defacing property or putting people at risk is not protected free speech. So no one pleae think that is the argument I am making.

U.S. Code (Title 22, Section 2656f), which describes terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents.” The United Nations has also proposed a definition in its draft conventions, calling it “unlawfully and intentionally causing death or serious bodily injury to any person” to intimidate a population or influence a government or international organization.

Key elements often include:

  • Violence or Threat: Physical harm, bombings, shootings, or even psychological intimidation.
  • Civilian Targets: Unlike military actions, terrorism typically strikes at non-combatants to maximize fear.
  • Motive: Political (e.g., overthrowing a regime), ideological (e.g., advancing an extremist belief), or religious (e.g., jihadist attacks).
  • Intent to Terrorize: The goal is broader than the immediate act—instilling widespread panic or forcing policy changes.

One could argue that this has a political angle though due to Musk working for Trump and cutting everywhere. It remains to be seen if it will actually end up cutting costs and/or getting rid of waste/abuse/fraud.

So it reads like blowing up empty airports, abortion clinics government buildings, opposition party HQ and houses etc. etc. would all be terrorism if done for a political purpose (not garden variety crime,) right?

If yes why are cars and car dealerships different?

The left point their fingers at others and accuse them of the very crimes they themselves are committing. The media and leftist politicians plus the 3 letter agencies feed their sheople the hate they want spread and the sheople simply apply their feeeeeelings and commit acts of violence just like they’re told. They are brainless idiots and I must say, I never realized the high percentage of idiots among us.

Does anyone remember the FBI Director telling Congress under oath that right wing terrorism is the nation’s number 1 threat? Now…can anyone name an act that substantiates this claim made years ago.

I will still err on the side its not terrorism. If they start making statements that DOGE has to be stopped or remove Musk then they are opening themselves to terrorist charges. Whether they would stick is another matter.

People from the internet recognized him from a video and turned him in. :sunglasses: :tumbler_glass:

I guess I’ve got some wiggle room on the name.
keying a TESLA is not blowing up a plane, and setting TESLAs on fire is somewhere in between

Still

  • a campaign of politically motivated violence, vandalism etc. should be treated more harshly than random or garden-variety crime,
    and
  • anyone who orchestrates such a campaign should be treated very very harshly, VERY long sentences.

You know like:
key a car cause you’re and idiot: get 30 days.
key a car to make a political statement and a wave of that is going on: get 2-4 years
orchestrate others to do it: forfeit all your assets as fines and go to jail 20-100 years
(but I am flexible on the name thing.)

Pretty much all of your post is a description of political domestic terrorism and/or a hate crime that is directed at one person and only one type of EV, it’s pretty brazen actually and the perps need to charged accordingly. IMO

You are misunderstanding political domestic terrorism. As always Grok can summarize an issue more succinctly than I can

The USA PATRIOT Act, enacted in 2001, defines “domestic terrorism” in 18 U.S.C. § 2331(5) as activities that:

  • Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate U.S. or state criminal laws;
  • Appear intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence government policy by intimidation or coercion, or affect government conduct through mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
  • Occur primarily within the U.S.

However, this definition is primarily for investigative purposes and does not establish “domestic terrorism” as a standalone federal criminal offense. Instead, acts of politically motivated domestic terrorism are prosecuted under other federal statutes, such as those covering murder, assault, arson, firearms violations, or seditious conspiracy, depending on the specifics of the crime. For example, the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack led to charges like obstruction of an official proceeding and seditious conspiracy, but not a specific “domestic terrorism” charge.
