Mexican authorities made a gruesome discovery this week; finding 20 bodies -17 of them burned- near the United States’ border in the northern city of Nuevo Laredo, reports Reuters.

“Five burned vehicles were also found near the bodies in the town of Miguel Aleman, across the Rio Grande from Texas in the northern state of Tamaulipas, the official said in a statement, without providing details,” reports the news agency.

“Tamaulipas has become one of the most violent states in Mexico, convulsed by gangs fighting to control drug trafficking, extortion rackets and the exploitation of migrants,” adds the article.

The news comes as President Trump tours the region; highlighting the human impact of illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and crime along the United States’ southern border with Mexico.
