more ■■■■■■■■■ the majority can force a vote any time they want, not voting demonstrates there is not a majority
That’s a good point.
Except.
The founders did NOT set it up to be a slow process.
From the George Washington well into the 20th Century, nominations were confirmed typically in a week and often in as little as a day.
Even as late as the 1980’s, nominations typically were confirmed in 30 days or less.
The Bork nomination was the turning point in which the old Senate norms broke down.
And it has only been since 2000 that lower level nominations have gotten tangled in delay.
And then the bottom crawler Tuberville had to extend the mess to military nominations, which, until now, had been considered sacrosanct and never delayed UNLESS there was a problem with a specific nominee.
I don’t like what either party has done with nominations. Both sides have obstructed and delayed. Tuberville has just taken it to a new low.
My changes would actually RESTORE the norms that existed for so many years.
The Senate can change its norms for constructive purposes.
I am really getting the feeling that you hate that Tommy Tuberville
Let’s just say I hold him at the same level of contempt as I hold the squad. On the Republican side, he would be in the group with Gaetz and a few others at the bottom of the pile of contempt. Plenty of Rs and Ds in the pile.
completely ignoring the fact that under the current rules the majority can force a vote any time they want to, and that since they haven’t it is demonstrated that a majority do not want to force a vote.
The military is far, far too top heavy.
I’m ok with O-1 through O-5 being appointed by the President. Maybe even O-6.
The number of flag officers need to be greatly reduced.
Not promoting generals absolutely DOES NOT cripple the military.
You’re looking at the wrong end of it.
The nominations were better and for better reasons then.
