Barr removes prisons chief after Epstein death....What is it about this case that has so much of Barrs attention?

Link that Trump ''ran him off ‘’ or it didn’t happen.

That’s like getting rid of an Army divisions commanding general because a private fell asleep on guard duty…

We’ll just have to disagree…I’m not buying it.

Absolutely!

That long? proof it’s rigged.

I do just want to add that the BoP is in a world of hurt these days and for many things unrelated to Epstein. They still haven’t put together the events leading up to the murder of Whitey Bulgar. The BoP suffers from tremendous and chronic short staffing. There are other chronic problems that need addressing.

In posts on the old forums, I addressed the problems.

  1. The BoP needs more sufficient funding.
  2. It staffing deficiencies need to be promptly addressed.
  3. Sentencing reform to allow the system to shed inmates that should be released (this has been addressed to some extent by Congress).
  4. Abolition of private prisons and private prison transportation services, with either the BoP taking ownership and control of private facilities or building new public facilities to replace the private facilities. United States Marshal’s only would transport prisoners.

If Epstein’s death was not a deliberate act of murder, than it was made possible by the BoP’s many current deficiencies.

The filling doesn’t even pretend to provide any witnesses.

FYI - The ONLY evidence that Trump barred Epstein over sex assault was trump saying that years later. I know this is a bit of a shocker -But Trump sometimes says things that aren’t really true (I’ll give a second while everyone gets over that SHOCK).

Evidence suggests their falling out was much more about Trumps true love and only true passion. Real Estate. Trump-Epstein Friendship Ended Over Mansion: Report

side note - I actually think Epstein killed himself. I do think there was prob some payments made by Epstein for people to look the other way -but thats about it. Having said that -
I do find it funny that a man known to hang out, party with, and hit on women with the current president, who the current president stated was a good guy and he liked women “On the younger side”, a current president who we know without a doubt flew on Epstein’s private jet - a current president who has a history of questionable sexual quotes and actions, that when Epstein is found dead in a federal prison run by the current presidents DOJ, so many people quickly think the real killer is current private citizen with no power. LOL.

Pete Williams from MSNBC today said that he has spoken with different folks who know Barr and are currently working with him. He said that upfront when he took the job he told his staff that he would be more involved in the court and prison system that what is usual. And Williams said that the career folks at DOJ say that he has been more involved then any of his predecessors.

Wasn’t Barr the one who ensured Epstein wasn’t send to Rikers Island as the SDNY intended? Or was that someone else?

ETA: Ah, that was Manafort not Epstein.

Nothing indicates “foul play” except wild imaginations.

Below is the public domain biography of Hugh Hurwitz from the BoP website, which has not been updated yet.

Hurwitz is evidently a very talented attorney. And had served in numerous roles, some in the BoP, several outside, including NASA.

But he has never been trained or specialized in the nuts and bolts of corrections. He probably took some minor classes regarding the legal aspects of corrections during law school. But no formal education in actually running a prison, let alone a prison system. He never served as a guard, assistant warden or warden of a facility. Nor did he serve in the direct chain of command over any prison, until the day he assumed his position as Acting Chief of the BoP.

Not a role he was prepared for by training or experience.

Hugh J. Hurwitz is the Acting Director of the Bureau of Prisons. Mr. Hurwitz began his career with the Bureau of Prisons as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel in 1988. He became a full time employee in 1991 when he was selected as a DOJ honors attorney after serving a one-year clerkship at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He left the Bureau for private law practice, returning in 1997, as the Assistant Chief for Construction Contracting in the Administration Division. Subsequently, he was selected for positions of increasing responsibility, including Chief of National Contracts and Policy, Chief of the Acquisitions Branch and Procurement Executive for the Bureau of Prisons. In 2003, Mr. Hurwitz was selected as the Chief of Acquisitions and Grants Services at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), later becoming the FDA’s Chief of Information Technology Shared Services. In 2007, he was appointed Senior Procurement Executive for the U.S. Department of Education (ED) before being promoted to Deputy Chief Financial Officer for ED. Mr. Hurwitz joined NASA’s Office of Inspector General in 2012 as the Assistant Inspector General for Management. In 2015, he returned to the Bureau of Prisons as the Senior Deputy Assistant Director for the Information, Policy and Public Affairs Division. Mr. Hurwitz was selected as the Assistant Director for the Reentry Services Division in 2017. On May 18, 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed him as the Acting Director of the Bureau of Prisons.

As Acting Director, Mr. Hurwitz oversees the operation of 122 Bureau of Prisons facilities with oversight and management of approximately 37,000 staff and approximately 184,000 inmates.

In 1987, Mr. Hurwitz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Rochester. In 1990, he received his Juris Doctor degree from American University, Washington College of Law. Mr. Hurwitz has been a member of the Senior Executive Service since 2003.
