Are we closer to 1984 or Brave New World? Both were 20th-century visions of a dystopian future.
The promotion of promiscuity and drug use seem closer to Brave New World, but the universal surveillance and wars forever seem more like 1984.
Neither book really saw the development of electronics and computer technology. On the other hand, pervasive internet porn and sex robots clearly fit into themes from Brave New World, while Wikipedia rewrites of history and vast government databases of phone conversations and internet communications fit right into 1984.
Yes, western leaders seem to be treating both books as instruction manuals rather than as warnings.
The UK is turning into 1984’s “Airstrip One” with the support of leaders who run “Oceana”. Starmer took power with the vote from only 20% of registered voters. At the same time polls show that almost 70% of the UK opposes uniparty immigration policy. Yet anyone vocally opposes the policy is censored and faces arrest as a “far-right extremist”. The doublespeak and thought control sounds a lot like 1984.
On the other hand, Macron appears to be taking Brave New World to another level with his blasphemously obscene Olympics show.
