AP: Trump orders re-opening of Alcatraz

Is there a popcorn shortage yet?

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a hard-to-reach California island that has been closed for more than 60 years.

In a post on his Truth Social site Sunday evening, Trump wrote that, “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering. When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

“That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders,” he wrote, adding: “The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE.” . . .

Is there a way we can sell tickets?

I don’t see a problem with it.

Always seemed like a pretty good idea for a prison if you ask me.

Just don’t let General Hummel anywhere near that place.

I mean I don’t have an issue with it. Frankly we needed a place like Guyana for years now.

Alcatraz, GITMO and any other underused place pending deportment to their own country.

Not a police state.

Great.

Can you imagine how much money this is going to cost. Not to mention the reason it closed is because it costs a fortune to run. All supplies have to be brought in by boat. So stupid.

Billions

Make Alcatraz great again. I’m curious what movie he watched or random person heard this from.

Ha, so the exact opposite of what I assumed.

Maybe it’s not an okay idea.

It just seems like a strange and theatrical way to do the equivalent of adding a wing or two to any existing Federal Pen.

This one at least .
Well I like theatrics this time.

Yea, I think theatrics pretty well sums it up.

I don’t like this idea. The cost is absurd and lawyers will have a field day with cruelty.

Well, by the time Alcatraz reopens Trump will either not be President or not be alive. The next President will see the costs and impracticality of it and just stop the project.

So, its all sound and fury, signifying nothing.
