Who would have thunk it? People can now move to Louisianna for the schools? Worst to first? All they had to do is to ditch all the flakey, new age educational garbage, instill a little discipline and tried and true old school educational methods. And zero credit goes to the Department of Education. DOGE EM! Red State common sense!
Back to the basics.
They did this while the Ed still exists. This shows what we all knew… states control their curriculum.
Then there is no need for the Department of Education.
How do you figure?
Schools are funded with a combination of federal, state, and local dollars.

What exactly did the DOE do?
Provided money to Louisiana. It’s right there in the link that you obviously didn’t look at.

I read the link. Other than some nominal grant money, the DOE did nothing. Without the DOE, the result would be exactly the same.

Ed provides
Grants
Funding for special needs
Funding for low income areas
Legal protections against discrimination
Etc.
They don’t…
Hire teachers
Pay teachers
Fire teachers
Set curriculum
Build schools

Ed provides

Legal protections against discriminationEtc.
So, basically, they did nothing remotely relevant to Louisiana’s success story.

You couldn’t possibly know that. The DoE provided money to Louisiana that the state used for education, and education outcomes improved in the state.

From the OP article:
In the last five years, the state has made several significant changes in how reading — and, more recently, math — are taught.
Through new legislation, the state has adopted a “back-to-basics” approach in both subjects, including training for teachers in research-backed practices (like phonics or sounding out words), closer student monitoring and high-dosage tutoring.
Nowhere in the article is the DOE mentioned.
DOE grant money is minimal in the scheme of things. Even without it, the changes would have still taken place.

Of course they did, they provided funding to their low income schools and special ed programs. But the curriculum was all on the state.

But the curriculum was all on the state.
The curriculum was the game changer.

Where are you reading that it’s minimal? Louisiana receives nearly 20% of their education dollars from the fed.
By comparison California gets about 6%

The article was very specific about the changes responsible for the turnaround. The DOE played no part in that turnaround.
Your position reminds me of Obama’s famous “you didn’t build that” comment.

DOE grant money is minimal in the scheme of things.
Well, you’ve moved the goalposts from “did nothing” to “minimal” impact in record time.
What do you think Louisiana did with all that federal education money?

The goal posts haven’t moved. The DOE did nothing to turn around Louisiana schools.
There has been some back and forth regarding grant money, but that money had nothing to do with the turnaround.
