An interesting new Virginia Revival Model Federal Courtroom opens in Charlotte

What’s old is new again.

This was actually a common courtroom design in Jefferson’s day, emphasizing the shared authority of the Judge and Jury, by placing the Jury directly in front of the Judge.

There is a potential problem, however, if Federal Courts are ever required to broadcast their proceedings. Obviously it would make it extremely difficult to broadcast proceedings AND protect the identities of jurors if necessary.

So who is that behind the jury? The judge? If so, who is in front? The witness?

The Judge is right behind the Jury, the witness is seated dead center and counsel at the desks on either side.

Thanks. That could be an intimidating gig for a witness.
