How is the dollar doing these days?

It’s going down vs most currencies.
ETA: Down about 10% YTD

Our goods are getting cheaper.
Foreign goods are getting more expensive.

Pity the jet set.
They are gonna have to pay more to viisit their pied-a-terres on the French Riviera. And the price of a Lexus is gonna rise too.

When can I expect my rebate?

You’re already getting it.
Fewer dollars sent abroad = more dollars spent here.
Dollar falling = prices of US goods lower.

I’m not getting anything. When do I get my rebate?

As soon as you buy an Ameican made product instead of a foreign one.
(Dollar falling 10% functions just like a 10% tariff.)

All this winning and closing departments, the centgov needs less of my money, right?

Perhaps but the checks they are talking about are based on tariff revenue.
(This thread is about fewer criminals sending less money abroad.)

Anyway, I’d rather the use it to reduce the deficit.
but Donald Trump didn;t ask my opinion and he is set to sent out checks of about $600/peson based on tariff revenue.

According to Kiplinger

“currently, no new federal stimulus checks are scheduled for 2025. But if approved, the bill text indicates that the government would distribute payments as early as late 2025 or in 2026, depending on the progress of the legislation.”

Me too.

Why would the price of most Lexus vehicles rise? The majority of them are built in the US. The ES, RX, and TX are built here and that’s their three best selling vehicles for the brand.

It would harm LS, LX, and GX pricing, since most of those are built in Japan. The LS is only built in Japan because Toyota doesn’t trust its American workers to actually put it together right.

I have never own an argument about cars so I have stopped having them.

You’re right. I was wrong.

To be fair it’s expected for a Japanese manufacturer to build its luxury cars in Japan. It’s only relatively recently that they started moving luxury model production to the states, and most of them share their platform with a cheaper sibling. The Lexus ES is the best example. It’s just a fancy Toyota Camry. So it’s built in the same plant with the same components on the same assembly line. Only the body panels and interior panels you actually touch are different between the two.

Sure would be nice to keep more of that money here.

Wait! I have an idea!

How about folks stop hiring the folks who send their parychecks away?
Or maybe we could tax remittance?
Or both?

All accomplished without new laws and new bills passed by Congress…just done in a blink of an eye by a man with a brain and his common sense.

If I had my say I’d say DON’T bother.

I can just see the jokes that the Left would make for weeks:
’ From 5000 to misley 600 '.
‘Biden was sending 1000s and how many times’.
If it’s not going to be an amount that makes a little difference or makes you remmember it I agree too…I would not bother.
600 Dollars is not going to cover my utility bills for one month…I sure wouldn’t miss it.
Send the money to the children or Veterans.

Save your self embarassment, Mr. President, don’t give the Left any amunition. They’re doing a lot of dammage without you helping.

its a long standing tradition.

republican president. weak dollar.

democratic president. strong dollar.

Hmm I hadn’t heard that.

The more conventional view is that it is lined to things like
interest rates and
money printing and
world turmoil.
